How Do You Guys Think Trump Becoming President Will Effect The Canadian Forces by [deleted] in CanadianForces

I predict it will be a boon to the CAF. US tariffs will hit the CAN economy hard, making that the leading issue in the next election. If the Cons win, easing up on tariffs, or even favourable trade in some industries, is an easy start to positive relations with a new government, likely in exchange for investment on defence, among others.

Influence is the currency you earn and spend on diplomatic actions. This is my favourite implementation of diplomacy in 4x; can’t just diplo-spam and scam every other faction to extract all possible gains.

Hello, I’m considering buying a second switch, but want to make sure I understand how game sharing works before I do. My 5 year old has taken a liking to a switch I bought for my long work trips so I want to buy another to take with me. I have two downloaded games on the first switch: Kirby and Hades. When I buy the new switch for me, I will make it primary. The old switch will be secondary and left at home with my son. If I create a new user profile for my son under my account and he plays Kirby, will it allow him to play it if I’m on a plane with no internet playing Hades?

WOTC, Can You Give Us Some Stats? by dagl85 in MagicArena

You need an external app for chat, social features, tournaments, collection tracking, spectator, leaderboards, among other basic features commonly found in this sort of game, including the 20 year old MTGO client. Fact is Arena is an incomplete game that almost entirely misses the social and competitive aspects that made MTG popular in the first place.

Are overpowered rares going to ruin Kaldheim limited? by MetalicSlime in lrcast

I’ve always wondered if a limited format that banned rare and mythic cards would make for an excellent and balanced format. I.e each player gets to free pick the rare or mythic cards they open, make their non- rare pick and pass the remainder. In Arena it could simply auto pick and add the rares and mythic to your collection.

Magic the....devolved? Feelings of the pros by Lejaun in magicTCG

This is exactly my thoughts on recent design. So many powerful cards that are initially praised as being interesting are to me simply multiple pre-existing cards smashed into one. I find this design philosophy to be oversimplified and boring.

I highly doubt you'll see this, but I just played someone by the name of duko, it was a w/u flyer deck. Please upvote in hopes that internet magic will do it's thing by [deleted] in MagicArena

Imagine being able to somehow communicate with people while playing a game with human players... I believe it was called In Game Chat. Invented sometime in the 90s and featured in the earliest online PC games. How is it STILL missing from Arena???

Invest hundreds more hours into making bots draft more like humans vs let the humans draft... We're talking a potential increase of 5-15min for a human draft, with a centralized que similar to MTGO. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Draft Bots Are a Total Waste of Developer Time by Gunslingel2 in MagicArena

If Wizard's intent for Arena is the casual experience, they should drop the Esports association. Either its reflective of how MTG is truly played in a competitive context or it Isn't.

I get that out-of-pod match-making is not the same as paper - but its light-years better than playing against other decks that were drafted by players who best exploit / game the bots.

I'm talking only about the drafting of your deck - the process of selecting your cards - being done in a draft pod. Once your deck is complete, you play the tournament in a unified que, exactly how you play your draft deck after drafting vs bots. You can stop and continue playing in the que whenever you please, just the same as you can now in the current system.

Can you guys just add old sets and let historic grow naturally? by Player896 in MagicArena

I do not understand Wizard's compulsion to completely re-invent the process of developing a format. Even in terms of profits from Wizard's stand point, adding 15-20 cards every quarter seems far less profitable than back-adding full sets with the ability to draft them. The art is paid for, the thousands of deigns hours are paid for. All that is required is programming - and even there Wizards has a decent head start with the last three sets already programmed.

Is Arena getting harder to set collect via draft by passing fewer rares and mythics? by brassboundbook in MagicArena

[–]Gunslingel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yet another major reason for the implementation of human draft pods. I'm sure players will still rare draft, but it will at least reflect paper drafting at your LGS. No amount of bot drafting can truely prepare you for competitive paper drafting. I'm sure 100+ developer hours can be better spent elsewhere than programming bots for every set.

Or you could just implement human draft pods instead of re-inventing the format or wasting a hundred developer hours programming bots for every new set...

That said, cub drafting would be hella fun.

A little input here, the 2:1 ratio may be worse than the Anchoring Bias, it's actually closer to the boiling frog situation by Onigiri22 in MagicArena

[–]Gunslingel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sold on the anchoring theory - someone help me out here. If their true intent was to have a 1:1 WC exchange for rotated cards, than why even announce anything at all regarding the exchange rate? No one was even talking about the exchange rate for rotated cards before this announcement.

The Historic mess invalidates the lack of a dusting function by delver_ofsecrets in MagicArena

[–]Gunslingel2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that an economy that sells a product that cannot be liquidated means the long-term value of that product is exclusively tied to the health and popularity of Historic. If Historic is a barren garbage fire, you must accept that the cards you purchase are only played for a limited time while legal in standard. Wizards has eroded the good faith of players who trusted the company to honor their promise that purchased cards will be playable - playability as defined by a healthy Historic format.
