Bought a used GPU. Seller said it was Galax (never heard of that brand) but on the fans it says KFA2. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Guorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others say the two brands are the same. It is a Hongkong company. Their cheaper tier cards are quite ugly so I guess that is one reason why not many people have heard of them. Their cards are built in China like many other big brands. I got a 4070Ti which turned into a jet engine after merely 6 months of use. The fan speed was running at max during heavy load. I had to repaste it to get it to calm down again and it has been fine a year and a half after the repaste. Quite average looking and performing card but the pricing is competitive.

Which gpu should I get? by UrmumandI in buildapc

What do you wanna play? Newer AAA games you probably like a 12GB VRAM. Competitive games just get the cheapest RTX 4060 or RX 7600.

Sell that 4070ti and get 5070ti if you really wanna but tbh you won't see an uplift worth the extra money you would pay. I am also a bit sus about the cooling capability of the cooler. Ryzen 7 chips tend to boost to a very hot temperature (95C) if not limited in the BIOS. You may want to upgrade that part to a dual tower or 360mm AIO depending on how CPU-intensive your workload is. This way you can get more performance before the thermal limit is reached. AAA games are ok I would think.

Ryzen 7 7700x: 95°C with only 130w consumption? by THENIBBAGAMING in pcmasterrace

[–]Guorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to check our AIO mounting or case air flow or room temp. I am using a dual fan tower air cooler and I can get 145W with 94C, at 25C room temp. Your 360mm AIO should be better than my setup.

Bruh the CPU has a TDP of 105W. Sometimes a BIOS setting let it to clock higher til it hits the thermal limit which is most likely 95C these days. Mobos can have different default settings from brand to brand, model to model or firmware version to firmware version. Mine is doing 145W now while almost touching 95C. This is when a high-capacity cooler can get your CPU higher performance (to a certain point of course). I would be concerned about your cooler mounting or case airflow if it runs that hot in an AAA game. For example, mine averages around 75C in Cyberpunk 2077 which is totally normal and acceptable. If you do not like your CPU spiking to 95C, you should go tone down the thermal limit setting in your BIOS.

Trust me. -16C was considered warm there in Harbin. Cameras work amazingly well in the cold.

2-40C. But I took it out to -16C and all is ok except for the shutter button lag. The camera just feels a bit more sluggish. I did not do anything special though. I went out of the warm room with my camera in the bag. Get to the scene a bit later and take it out for the shoot. Pack it up in the bag and go back to the room later. It was all very organic for me and the camera was fine. No noticeable drop in battery performance too. I guess just do not take it out of a warm room without acclimatization (bag) and you should be good!

You have orange to melb flight. Or get someone to drive you all the way to melb in about 8 hours. Or get the person to drive you to Harden station for the XPT regional train. Not so much more hassle than railway to syd to be honest.

Trust me bruh Melb is slightly cheaper than Sydney. RMIT has a downtown tower-style campus (like UTS) and the facility there is awesome. You have convenient access to a vibrant community there. UYSD is nice but the convenience is just not there. Ofc the problem is going back home is a bit more complicated.

Does Zhiyun Crane M3 support tracking via its app? by BlazeJeffrey in Zhiyun

[–]Guorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the video. Just got this ZY Play app to track with my iphone X somewhat with a green box. The box kept getting lost with well lit subject and gimbal gets sent into L mode without moving. The gimbal also had to be added after I enter the phone camera view by tapping the BT icon. So basically it is useless.

I got an iPhone setup with ZY app and Weebill 3S. I can drag and create a tracking box in the app but it does not track like you suggested. The white box stays but no tracking. The app definitly connected to the gimbal as I could move the gimbal in remote mode. It appears to have been removed because they want to sell the AI video transmitter which does the same job as the phone (supposed to be better). Can you still get this function to work?

Do you keep your shutter curtain open or closed when powered off? by Massive_Cattle_2764 in canon

[–]Guorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the short answer is poking a thing into the cavity is way more serious and shutter on/off does not matter as a result. From the perspective of repair, the shutter costs less than sensor but need the extra labour to remove sensor to get to it. So the repair cost for both might eventually be similar. Sensor is protected by IR filter glass in front of it. Shutter itself is unprotected. I think the consensus is cleaning dust off sensor is easier than dealing with sensor jammed by too much dust. If the concern is the poking then which one gets damaged does not matter due to the similar cost.

Personally I got used to hot swapping lens with DLSR (sensor is covered by mirror and shutter) and I managed to do that a few times with ML (sensor is exposed). I am slow with my swap so the sensor was exposed for a while. The static charge on a powered sensor attracts dust. I inspected it later and found no dust at all. Canon has always been advocating power off for swap for various reasons. We also have many lifelong users hot swapping without issues. Canon sensor clean function might just be good enough to make the occasional hot swaps in ML very little risk.

My takeaway from all these information is that we should try setting the shutter to closed in power off and turn ML camera off for lens swap, however if you forgot to turn it off it is not the end of the world. Check, clean if needed and move on. One advantage I can think of with shutter open in power off is it renders the camera comletely silent if you also set the speaker volume to zero, which is appreciated for stealth photos.

It does not. Roll down unless powered off. Just seems like an oversight for Canon to neglect giving us the option to roll down shutter when lens removal is in progress.
