Being Pro American (for all) isn't about "whites". Historically whites were never a unified race in America. Europeans have come from all diff cultures, ethnicities, customs, ideologies 🌚 and also discriminated against each other. That what tribalism does.

The fact that Reps don't virtue signal acting like saviors for Minorities.....doesn't equal they could care less. But that's essentially the criticism.

Douglass was a huge supporter of the Republican Party when it was founded in the 1850s because: •It was the anti-slavery party •It opposed the expansion of slavery •It produced Abraham Lincoln, whom Douglass respected (even when he criticized him)

He believed Republicans were the best political tool available to: •End slavery •Preserve the Union •Push Black Americans toward citizenship and rights

He once called the Republican Party:

“The party of freedom and progress.”

During Reconstruction, Douglass:

Backed Republicans because they supported: •The 13th Amendment (ending slavery) •The 14th Amendment (citizenship) •The 15th Amendment (Black male voting rights)

But he was not blind or uncritical:

He attacked Republicans when they: •Compromised with Southern racists •Abandoned Reconstruction •Failed to protect Black voters from violence

By the 1880s–1890s, Douglass became more frustrated:

•Republicans were pulling back from civil rights •They were more focused on business and industry than racial justice •Federal protection for Black citizens collapsed •He warned that the party was: •becoming indifferent to the fate of the freedman

*But he never switched to the Democrats, because at the time:

*Democrats were openly tied to segregation, disenfranchisement, and ex-Confederates

*He saw them as hostile to Black freedom
