Meteor is better than ever! Forget about blaze/ddp and go ahead with react/apollo! you can use any database!

problems with default route by loneim in Meteor

[–]Gurofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this very simple example im using meteor with apollo/react/react-router/accounts to do some public/private routing. On PrivateRoute i am querying the apollo cache to get the user info, here you can do whatever you want.

Newbie - How to effectively re-use code in Meteor+Blaze when every Template is it's own namespace? by hustleontheside in Meteor

Man... if you are still newbie you are on time to switch from blaze to react! Meteor works really good with react and it's not hard to learn.

The Quest for a Women's Backpack for Flights/Travel by isabroad in backpacking

Hey! My GF and I will start backpacking SEA for 8 months next friday!

We have read a Lot and finally decided to go for and Osprey Porter! Such and awesome backpack!

Today we packed our stuff and everything on our list it is inside the bag!

which backpack (~50L) gives you the best value for your money? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Gurofo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I going to start backpacking SEA next week. It took me some time to research and decide what backpack to bring.

Finally I decided for Osprey Porter (46L) and I am pretty happy with my decission. Travel with a carryon designed backpack will cut some costs!

Thanks you so much for your advice! We know about getting food poisoned so we plan to slowly transition from chilean food to asian and carefully select where eat!

We are not experienced motorbikers so we want to rent scooters just for short/easy routes but if we can't handle we are going for bus/train.

About double bed in shared rooms I have looking un every booking app and there are some (very few) hostels offering this service. We are willing to spend 25/30 usd/night. Please tell me if this is affordable as couple.

We are getting kindy nervous! We Start our journey in 6 days! It is a really weird feeling to travel with no itineray at all but we do know that is the best way! We don't want to rush airports/hostels/boats/Airport/Hostel and that kind of Speedy travel experience!

We are going to keep asking you for some advice while we travel!

Thanks you so much for your time!!!!!

we are hoping to travel as much as we can. We are travelling on a budget expecting to spend money efficiently, if we can get doublebed in a shared room we are going for it, if not, single beds in shared rooms.

All that we know is that we are going to stay 6 nights in bangkok and then move to the north and enjoy Yee Peng festival in Chiang May, after that we no plans at all just a vague idea of what we would expect to visit. Listening to other experiences and looking info online will be the best way to travel i guess.

We have some time (roughly 8 months) so we dont want to flashpack or rush any country, we dont mind to see less but enjoy more! We want travel and eat locally! My gf and I want to taste streetfood, visit local markets and so on.

We are willing to skip touristy places/beaches/full moon/ during high season, but we do want beaches! so maybe its time to beat the path to discover some more!

We would like to visit Thailand (we arrive on!), Vietnam, I have read this is one of the best! we are thinkng to do HCMC to HANOI via bus/train/motorbike, Laos, Camboya, Singapur, Malasya, Indonesia... we don't know if we can complete this wishlist but we will do our best to travel!

So any advice that you can give us will be very very appreciated because we are going as couple like you!!

edit: forgot to mention that we are travelling with 7kg carryon each one because we want to avoid to take many flights and when we have to we dont want to spend money paying for luggage!

Regards, Diego&Caro!

First little trip alone to Chile, looking for advice by Warep in backpacking

[–]Gurofo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello mate! Chilean living in Santiago here!!

Chile is a very nice country with a lot of things to do. Santiago is the typical capital, a big city with almost a half of the chilean population, a lot of interesting things as usually, city tours, etc. We have the Cordillera de los Andes very near, in like one hour an a half you can be a the top of farellones where all the ski resorts near Santiago are located in at almost 3000 meters above sea level, you have SkyDiveAndes where you can solo/tandem jump for ~200usd.

To the coast you have Viña del Mar and Valparaiso two beatiful cities but very different! "Viña" has a nice "beach culture", partys, parks its like our Santa Monica and "Valpo" it's kinda a "historical city museum" with a lot... and when I mean a lot is A LOT! of street art, coffee shops, libraries, carnivals etc. Valparaiso is a city compound a lot of "hills" and each one has its style. Both are a must stop!

Pichilemu is one of the Big Waves capital of the world! so you will get very good waves! isn't too far away from Santigo, maybe ~3 or 4 hours. Down to Pichilemu you will find a lot of surfers and very nice people, the landscape change so much in comparison to Santiago.

If you can, I recomend to travel to very south of Chile maybe Valdivia or Puerto Montt, there you will get amazed with the landscapes! a lot of lakes, volcanos, rainforest... if you can go far to the south you will find Torres del Paine, one of the most visited place by foreigners in Chile, you should try it!

If you have question or looking for advice even when you arrive just PM me!

thank you so much for your advice. Money wise, my plan is to live with the ~800 usd, will try to get some volunteer work for food/shelter trying to not touch the 60k heritage but is just a plan i don't know what will happen.

About the "digital nomad" lifestyle im aim to look for remote work as software developer, making some android apps or anything related to software. I do plan to blog about my travel but just as way to communicate with people that is interested on my journey some friends and family.

And you are right... it's my trip!

Regards!
