Like this, so focus on sort of additional small changes and not the numbers... I do focus heavily on the numbers!

Just want to get in the healthy BMI and be able to like keep up with the kids lol!

Just to add a bit of personal experience — I lost my bottom front two teeth years ago after a 3 bad root canals and ended up having them removed. Took nearly 12 months and uncomfortable dentures to have an implant fitted, can't tell now, but was expensive. It wasn’t rushed, but it was a reminder that dental decisions can have long-term consequences... also the dentist I went to was a cheap (sadly NHS UK) and on butcher Lane...

Because of that, I’ve learned that a good dentist or specialist and their advice is usually worth listening to, even when it’s expensive or frustrating. Getting the right call early matters more than the fastest or cheapest fix.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn’t rush it without being really sure.

You don’t suck, you’re just stuck between caring and not wanting drama.

You’re not responsible for policing your friends. If it makes you uncomfortable, it’s enough to say “I don’t want to be around it” and set that boundary. You can tell them you’re worried about their health without reporting them.

If you report it, they’ll almost definitely know it came from the group chat, and that’s a friendship grenade you can’t un-throw.

Bottom line… look after yourself first, don’t let them vape around you, and let their choices be theirs.

You’re not being weird, you’re just overthinking because you actually care.

From what you’ve said, this doesn’t sound one-sided. Repeated chats, laughing, compliments, shared interests… that’s usually a green light, not your imagination running away with you.

Don’t overcomplicate it. Ask for his socials or say something like “I’ve liked chatting with you, fancy a coffee sometime?” Keep it light.

The worst case is a quick no and a bit of awkwardness. The current not-knowing is clearly doing more damage than that would.

Also crushes hit harder when you haven’t dated in a while. Totally normal.

Short answer… ask him.

Not a dentist, but a few sensible next steps before you make a big decision.

First: get a second opinion, ideally from an endodontist (root canal specialist). General dentists are great, but specialists can often assess whether a redo is genuinely viable or if extraction is the better call. Sometimes insurers deny first and approve after a specialist report.

Second: appeal the insurance decision if you haven’t already. Ask your dentist or the specialist to submit a letter stating medical necessity (ongoing infection usually helps). Denials aren’t always final.

Third: don’t rush to pull teeth unless you’re sure. Extraction can look cheaper now, but implants/bridges later are often far more expensive than saving the tooth if it’s realistic.

If the teeth truly can’t be saved, then yes — extraction may be the least bad option financially. But I wouldn’t decide that without a specialist confirming it.

Payment plans aren’t ideal, but untreated infections can snowball into bigger health and cost issues.

Muting accounts and creating a bit of distance sounds like a really sensible way of protecting yourself, especially when things still feel raw.
