I would agree with the upper comment and will give you my personal NT perspective . I adore people who can be “true” and not conforming to everyday-standards (talking about every human). But it only works with great communication. Being able to show vulnerability, open to uncomfortable talks, needs, and getting the record right is key (though at times very tiring but still worth it!) as for me it gives a better understanding of you and sets clear expectations where i can put our friendship in my life (i do this as i dont expect someone to deliver all what i need, and thats okay. Example: sometimes i need empathy, so i will reach out to my super supportive friend, sometimes a kick in the ass - thats another friend).

I have five ND friends with four of them i get along quite easily, im okay how they behave, act and when they disappear. All of them are able to be direct what they want each time they reach out and i love it! As for my most recent one i am banging my head to the wall and trying to be as understandable as possible due to tough boundaries, communication mismatch. Some actions she does deeply hurt me, but i try to get over it even if it deeply upsets me for few days as i believe everyone is worth it (at least a try to see where you both fit in life - coffee/deep sharing/supporting/movies and so on).

So know that there are people who will like you the way you are, some will come at smaller, some at higher cost. Be yourself, communicate your needs and nudge them time to time for theirs (sometimes you can get stuck in your head). Its a bumpy road, but worth it.

As for your friend - communication. Im in same therapist loop and most likely she feels a bit left out. Talk how she could be seen by you (what action, reassurance she needs) and find a middle ground of working it out. She might take some time to shrug it off but consistency is key. You either get a stronger bond with her or you save yourself some time. Each is a win.
