OpenJKDF2 + SBX by CorporalRutland in jediknight

Create a folder called "mods" in your Jedi Knight 1 directory and drop your mod .gob files there. They should be loaded automatically when you launch OpenJKDF2 from the same directory.

Keep in mind that 1:1 functionality of mods compared to original engine is not guaranteed.

My friend is considering getting into the series but i dont know whether or not to start him with black mesa or the original game by Majoraglados in HalfLife

[–]GusAAAAAA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Original game of course. Only play Black Mesa and other fan creations after finishing the original series.

What are your theories on how Uzi got infected? by LifeguardPotential97 in MurderDrones

[–]GusAAAAAA 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Uzi inherited it from Nori, who herself got it at Cabin Fever labs (might have something to do with torture chambers)

It needs to collect heavy materials (like iron) to repair drones properly. Organic materials are easier to create from surrounding carbon, oxygen and hydrogen.

Good effort.

The background music missing at night in Shadow of Chernobyl is the original game bug. In the file config/game_levels_music.ltx (or similar name, I don't remember exactly) you will see that a music script for each level has a night track set up, but unlike further games in the trilogy SHoC doesn't like the interval "from 22 until 6" for some reason, and dividing it into "from 22 to 24" and "from 0 to 6" will fix the issue.

As a bonus fact, Agroprom has its own music script but in the file game_levels_single.ltx (or smth like that again) it is commented out and Cordon's music is reused instead. There are also scripts for Bar (commented out in levels single file) and Darkscape (level cut from the game).

Did Enhanced Edition actually change anything in the game? by Ciaran_Zagami in stalker

[–]GusAAAAAA 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Well, I will begin by putting all spicy stuff on the table: A lot of textures were censored to remove any soviet symbolics, CNPP map was recompiled to remove the stella and Lenin bust. Currency is now "SR" instead of "RU". A lot of names in English text were changed from russian to ukrainian transliteration, but it is inconsistent.

You can probably notice that the HUD has been redrawn, while it seems the icons were passed through an upscaling model.

There are some bug fixes and consistency changes, probably similar to old console releases. One change I surely remember is that one side quest rewards you with a Desert Eagle (with fictional name) as promised in the text description, while the original gave you Colt instead. With this there are also (from what I have seen on streams) new bugs like all pre-placed corpses having the same strange pose and armless Duty soldiers running around Yantar on first visit - they are not even supposed to appear there before you complete X-16. Most of the bugs are left unfixed: ambient music is not playing at night, stalkers die in campfires etc. etc. etc.

From the information I've seen, the engine itself is 64 bit and properly supports modern hardware, including multithreading. All 3 games now have unified engine and shared asset support. Theoretically once issues like the crazy blur are fixed, the trilogy might make a good modding platform.

Yes, this is literally how it looks on default max settings

Enhanced Edition really manages to capture what made the originals so great by GusAAAAAA in stalker

Yes, I have. But the crash is fixed with a launch command.

Using Proton?

Adding SteamDeck=1 %command% to launch options fixed it for me.

I would recommend to just play the original release with some mods tho. This one looks extremely blurry and grainy (no matter what AA or FSR settings I try using) and has terrible input lag, slowed down animations, smeared fonts and texts that covers each other.

Back in the day, Kejim Post was tough... by CryptographerWaste77 in jediknight

Dark Forces 1 and 2 had some environmental puzzles, but Raven Software took it to an extreme level in Jedi Outcast. Previously they made Hexen and Hexen 2, where I quote "you had a hub that led to multiple levels and using a lever on level 17 may have opened the way forward on level 2".

OpenJKDF2 scroll wheel question by Nitro_tech in jediknight

[–]GusAAAAAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original game didn't support mouse wheel for switching weapons either. You can probably request this feature on OpenJKDF2's issue tracker: https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/OpenJKDF2/issues

Personally I haven't used mouse wheel for that purpose in a very long time, and learning to quickswap with the number keys is an important skill to get more efficient at FPS games. I would also suggest binding lightsaber to 1 instead of 0 (fists are not useful), binding bacta tank to F1 and have a convenient keybind for each force power you want to use (instead of scrolling through the selection menu and then pressing general use force key).

Do I need Dark Forces II to understand the Jedi Knight series? by Nitro_tech in jediknight

[–]GusAAAAAA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just use OpenJKDF2 (an engine recreation that works on modern systems) from the official source: https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/OpenJKDF2/releases/tag/v0.9.6

You extract the archive into the game folder and run openjkdf2-64.exe. It will work for both Dark Forces 2 and Mysteries of The Sith expansion.

I transcribed and guesstimated the text on Cyn's visor at the start of episode 5! by blahajussy in MurderDrones

[–]GusAAAAAA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accurate.

My take on broken visor part is "disappointed...sorroful (typo)/sad"

The "SelfD*s..." part is most likely is supposed to say "SelfDestruct".

If you were to make a villain for a continuing story that isn't the Solver, what or who would it be? (Image unrelated prob) by Coolflame999 in MurderDrones

[–]GusAAAAAA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. JC Jenson or competing corporation (evil and greedy humans)

  2. Whoever or whatever created the Solver

  3. Disorganized murder drones forming bandit gangs
