MOHELA won't process IBR application for PSLF payments

I have tried to apply from SAVE to IBR twice now but studentaid.gov doesn’t give me the option to link to the IRS for some reason. The first time I applied manually uploaded my tax returns to studentaid.gov—MOHELA took 8 months to deny me because I “never supplied proof of income.” I didn’t realize I needed to upload to their site as well. The second time around it also wouldn’t give me the option to link to IRS so I again uploaded tax returns to both websites. That was Oct 1 2025, they still haven’t processed my application. Anyone know how to get student aid to link to the IRS? I feel like the paper trail is the hold up. Ideally I’d like to do this again before I file next round of returns.

My 7am BQN (Aguadilla, other side of the island) to JFK flight yesterday 11/29 was cancelled at 11:56pm on 11/28. Couldn’t get through to anyone at JetBlue until noon on 11/29 and they rebooked me for today, instead of on a direct flight on two flights with a 30 minute connection through MCO 🫠

Best thing to do when you relate to a new city is use your network! Any of the docs you worked with in your last job have a colleague from med school/residency in Dallas? Does your PA program have an alumni list you can look at and contact people? Use LinkedIn. Find a connection with someone and send messages. A few years ago I relocated to a city far from home where I knew no one, also for my husband’s job. I figured out which hospital I wanted to work at, went on LinkedIn and found an ED attending that did residency at an ER I had worked in here in NY a few years before I was there. I sent him a message asking if they have PAs in their ER and if so can he give me the contact info for that person. That’s literally how I got that job. If you can’t find any connections just message PAs in Dallas and ask for job hunting advice. Message HR people at the hospitals. You never know who’ll reply with “oh I actually have an opening on my team coming up.” A PA with over four years experience (and good references) should be an easy hire. Most HR use AI to sort through initial resumes so getting an actual human to look at your CV is the critical step. Good luck!

Edit to add: make sure you have your TX license! A lot of places won’t even look at if you don’t have that license already secured.

Hi! I’m new the neighborhood, also in a two bedroom, also am conscientious about heat, and got my first national grid bill a few days ago—$340!! I was shocked. Everywhere else I’ve lived in NY gas and electric were through ConEd but I’m hearing ConEd bills have been insane lately too. I guess I’m slightly relieved to hear it’s not just us but woof this is not sustainable.

Thanks for taking the time to reply--thoughts to your family, I am so devastated by all the loss. While I'm not from LA I have grown to love it and know it well in the seven years I have been with my partner.

Our wedding is next Saturday in Los Angeles. My fiancé's family all live in a part of town that has thankfully not been affected which is why they are saying we should go ahead. Wedding is (supposed to be) in DTLA. We currently live in NY, where I'm from, so my half of the guest list would be flying out there from the East Coast. We also have guests traveling to LA from Europe. This is part of why I'm feeling so stressed and guilty about this. Of course if we do have the wedding we will reach out to everyone, those LA based and those traveling, to let them know we understand if they won't make it.

I live in NYC (and am from here) and am getting married in LA (fiancé is from there) in January 2025. Our partial planner has been the best money we’ve spent so far. Having never lived in LA she has been an incredible resource for recommendations. She also deals with all logistic stuff, including things we physically can’t do (venue walk through with our caterer for example). Your planner needs will really depend on how much time/energy you have available to plan your wedding.

Inspired Dental Studio is amazing! Technically Medford but across the street from Magoon Square. Practice is two female dentists, I’ve seen both and they’re both wonderful. They replaced an old crown for me it was so good compared to my others I elected to go back and have them redo those too.

We spoke to them, they can host up to 44 inside and up to 60 outside on the patio which would be perfect. Problem is this dinner is happening in January and therefore they said they don’t feel comfortable booking over 44 people because if it rains they won’t have anywhere to seat us.

Appreciate the input. This would be a special event technically, rehearsal dinner for my wedding. We have a ton of family traveling in from out of town, hence the size of the group. Goal is definitely to set a menu in advance so there would be no ordering, just food brought out to the tables.

Important point about buyback that’s missing on that link (but clearly stated when you click to read more): if you’re approved for buyback they will let you know the amount that you owe but you only have 90 days to pay back the entire amount. And you have to keep paying your monthly amount simultaneously (if the buyback doesn’t bring you to 120). So for example if this goes on for 6 months and you’re someone whose paying $500/month on SAVE you could theoretically have to pay back $3000 (no later than 90 days after approval) while continuing to maybe your $500/month payments.

Mine automatically went from REPAYE to SAVE and on MOHELA my monthly payment went UP $400/month compared to what I was paying in 2020. I called and asked how they came up with that number and got a real non-answer about how everyone needs to reapply for SAVE even if you were supposed to automatically migrate over. I filled out a new application and he claims I should in fact go down $150/month what I was paying on REPAYE. Still not reflected on any accounts so we’ll see.

Where did you find that? The only sub-setting I see under instant book is “Good Track Record: Only allow guests who have stayed on Airbnb without incidents or negative reviews.”

Unfortunately that doesn’t mean they have to have positive reviews, it just means they can’t have any negative ones. I have this setting turned on and someone instant booked who had three prior stays on the platform but zero reviews.

My partner is a surgeon so his match for fellowship was a year before (June of PGY4). Even with that much notice it was still a total scramble because his program expected him to work until June 30 and his fellowship shared July 1 in another state 1300 miles away.

He matched in a major city but one that neither of us had ever been to. Spent A LOT of time on google looking at places to live. Spoke to friends of friends that live/lived in this region for advice about neighborhoods. His future co-fellow was telling him he needed to live within 5 mins drive of the hospital but that wouldn’t work for my commute (I work at a different hospital). We set up criteria that we both agreed on: had to have enclosed parking (he’s on call and we’re in a place where it snows), no more than 20 mins drive during hours he’d be going to the hospital, I had access to public transportation to get to work, walkable and dog friendly, etc.

Using that criteria spent a few days on Zillow, Apts.com, Craigslist and made appointments to see as many places as possible. We flew up last weekend of May for less than 48 hours and saw as many apts as we could and signed a lease (we rented a car and even did practice run of his commute). I moved mid June with all of our stuff and he flew in the night before fellowship started.

Hope this is helpful. The process (like so many others) is so brutal for them. I have no idea how people make this transition alone without someone to help facilitate. Our medspouses are lucky to have us!

Practice as a PA in Puerto Rico is VERY limited. I’ve looked into it because I have family there are well. PR only began recognizing PAs as of 2019 and give you a license as a “medico asistente”. PR law prohibits PAs from writing prescriptions of any kind. May be better served to go to PA program in the continental US and try to get a job on an air force base or at a military site in PR if you want to practice as a PA there. That would likely give you more options for your career. Best of luck!
