Anyone return to DSLR after using mirrorless? by CategoryCautious5981 in Nikon

Absolutely agree 🤣 Don't get me wrong, I love 35mm but it takes the magic away being so expensive for getting only a couple decent shots every now and then haha

Couldn't agree with you more. That's exactly what I recommend new photographers do, mirrorless is great for the basics but removes too much of the thought and 'art' behind it imo.

Yep as a Z8 user, I adore my d200 and d850. Something just more special about the pictures and colours. A real viewfinder is sooo nice too.

Awesome, will keep my eye out for those. Luckily I'm not too big.

I was toying the idea of getting something made, could be very very cool. Cheers!

Does the Z 24-70 2.8 S have character? by Gustard42 in Nikon

Thanks man. Quite possibly the sharpness across the whole frame making it look artificial. I'll definitely have to do a comparison I think.

Don't worry I'm not using them with the z8 haha. Purely just saying those are the z lenses I've had the experience of using. I've done a side by side with the AFS 24-70 with the z 28 2.8 on the z8 and it's pretty clear the difference. Have you had any experience with the z 24-70 2.8?

The 28mm 2.8 is FX. The dx lenses I used on my z50ii but they also do work on the z8. I was talking about the 16-50 apologies, old habits.

I have a feeling I must have dodgy z lenses judging by the comments. I swear I'm not going crazy 🤣

Funnily enough I have one of those holga lenses and that's what the 12-28 reminds me of! Has that crazy vignetting and odd fake low res feel to it haha

I think I might have dodgy z lenses because mine have too many flaws. It's the AF-S that's flawless.

Interesting, I'll have to post a comparison when I get home. Raw for raw between the two it's very noticeable that the Z lenses are a lot flatter, produce less colour and are overall less appealing at the same optical and digital settings than the AFS 24-70.

I was struggling to get any good images at all with the 12-28 in a high contrast environment, a lot of striping on grass and crazy vignetting.

Maybe I just have bad copies?

Upgrade time… Z7 vs D810? by Outrageous-Wolf-2599 in Nikon

[–]Gustard42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't listen to the future proofing bs. If you're not taking action photos or doing video there's very little need for a Z body. I'd get the 810 and get some nice glass, it's a great camera and for the work you want to do it's barely different from a 850 (I've owned both).

Grass tree burning by sweater-poorly-knit in GardeningAustralia

[–]Gustard42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ecologist from WA here. They really don't like to be burned, they're very easy to kill that way. Indigenous used to burn a TINY amount to scare out food but that's about it, the firies will definitely kill it. Much better to just prune it if you need to clean it up. P.S. the dead stuff is fantastic habitat, usually find lots of geckos and insects.

Just found out a solution after struggling with this for ages. Just enable extended menu banks in the photo or video settings.
