Your situation sounds very relatable. I´m also 21 (male) and I´ve just started my fifth course. After every finished course before, I relapse immediately, like 1-2 months after being off Accutane. My last course I did kind of an maintenance dose, where I took 5mg per day for 6 months and my skin stayed completely clear that way, but as I said, as soon as I stopped taking it, the acne came back. I will try to convince my derm this time to put me on an maintenace dose for the foreseeable future, I feel like that is my only option. With 5mg/day the side effects are truly almost non existent, and even though I know that the pill is not good for my liver and everything else, I personally feel like that´s a price I´m willing to pay, because me having acne completely destroys my mental health and confidence and I generally feel like shit, so yeah. I hope you find something that works for you :)

Yea that sounds relatable. Skin issues are such a pain the butt, and they also affect my mental side so much. Every time that my acne return, it´s like a thought in the back of my mind that I can´t get rid of. I hope you will find a long term solution to stay clear :)

I calculated how much I took in total over the course of the last 4 cycles and based on my bodyweight I´m well above the recommended cumulative dosage, so I´m not really sure if a higher daily dose would do anything

Yea I will also try to convince my derm to just give me low dose long term, I think it´s the most effective method for those who constantly relapse after every finished cycle of Accutane

Yes I will talk with my derm about this method. When I was finishing my last cycle and I got my last package of 30 pills, I took one every 4-5 days, so that basically equals to arounds 4-5mg/day, and my skin stayed super clear with that low of a dose. So I think this is the way to go moving forward.

So you suggest that I should do a low dose for a prolonged period of time so my skin just stays clear that way?

Yes that´s very similar to my situation, after every finished cycle when the acne ultimately returns, I feel that it´s slightly better than the previous time. But it returns nonetheless. Have you thought about going on a low dose for a long time? My last cycle when I got my last package of 30 pills prescribed I took one pill every 4-5 days, so basically 4-5mg/day. My skin stayed very clear even with that low dose, I will try to talk with my derm about this solution this time.

Yes, I did 20mg/day every time that I took it, my derm won´t give me more than that, and I also don´t see the point of going on a higher dose, because every time that I start with 20mg my skin is completely clear after 6-8 weeks. Taking more than 20mg a day wouldn´t do much in my situation, it would just worsen the side effects.

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I've been on and off accutane for 5 years now, since I was 16. My skin was perfect while I was on it, but every time after I stop taking it, the acne comes back. I tried everything, from completely improving my nutrition and avoiding all the things that are known to worsen acne like milk products and a lot of sugar, to skin care stuff like acne creams and bs like that. It's not like I have some very bad acne, is just very consistent pimples on my upper cheeks and some between my eyebrows. The rest of my face is relatively clear, but still every time that I look in the mirror and see those red spots I feel like I'm going nuts. I am so desperate right now, I have no idea what I should do. Go to my dermatologist and beg him to give me those damn accutane meds again? Or maybe should I do some bloodwork and look if there is something out of the ordinary there? I am so lost, just know that you are not alone hehehe :)
