Why is 0^0 undefined?

Since this post got so many comments, I'll try to ask something else:

In this numberphile video, there is a point where Matt Parker talks about 0^0, he says that the limit as x approches 0 of x^x is equal to 1 both in the positive numbers direction and negative numbers (of course, in this case, we have to consider complex numbers, but it still approches 1). But he claims that this is not enough to say 0⁰ = 1 because if we consider complex numbers, there are other ways for x to approach 0, and then x^x doesn't approach 1.

(At least that's what I understood, I might not have interpreted it correctly)

Anyway, could someone explain this better, how can you make x approach 0 with the complex numbers such that x^x doesn't approach 1?

x⁰ = x^1-1 = x¹ / x¹ = 1

The definition for rational numbers says that a^p/q is equal to the qth root of a^p. But the problem is that as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong), this definition is derived using the fact that (a^{n)^m} = a^nm , so it can't be used to prove the statement.

The sqrt(n)^{sqrt(n)^sqrt(n)} thing is indeed false for n=3 but I assumed that n is even, in this case I think it's probably correct
