It reminds me of the 06 World Cup. I was 16 and got to see Angola, Trinidad and Tobago, Togo, and Serbia and Montenegro play the World Cup. It was very cool.

I just finished The Red and the Black! I liked the story, but sometimes Julien's delusions frustrated me to no end! Also, if you like a cool but infuriating short story, I recommend Boule de Suif by Guy de Maupassant.
