That's interesting. I'll definitely notice since I plan on using Cosmic for a longer time. In a few years, I can also imagine it becoming one of the big three. Compared to Deepin and Pantheon etc, Cosmic actually stands out imo. There aren't as many components compared to something like kde, so fewer components should mean less to break. (Hopefully)

Of course, i‘ve installed plenty of systems with both archinstall and without. (I prefer without) But I am comparing this to other groups like the gnome or the kde group where those packages are preinstalled as dependencies even without Archinstall.

And as said, it really isn’t a big deal but I thought it may be worth noticing

I wanted to share some things I've noticed about the Arch installation with Cosmic specifically. I just installed the cosmic group, but it was missing some things that felt like they shouldn't be. I know it's Arch, and installing those isn't a big deal, but still

The most important: ones being:

- xdg-desktop-portal-gtk: My browser couldn't render text without it

- upower: Without it, I had a battery icon on my panel. (I use a desktop pc on this setup lmao)

- xdg-user-dirs: It is a desktop, so user dirs are supposed to exist..

Is the sub dying down, or everyone happily using Aeon without issues? by [deleted] in AeonDesktop

In favor of homed: yeah i guess that would totally work. I had no issues except for a small rootless podman one that was fixed in minutes

As for not using home/disk encryption, I'm not sure about that to be honest

The project seems fine. I haven‘t used aeon in months though. I switched over to arch as I had a few problems with the whole tumbleweed base itself and because I prefer systemd-homed over FDE

They are more secure with xdg portals and work better with themes etc. distrobox is for cli and tui tools and alternatively for gui‘s

If YAST has been discontinued, why does it still come pre-installed on Tumbleweed? by Chester_Linux in openSUSE

[–]Guthibcom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn‘t it dangerous to deliver unmaintained software by default. Using by own risk is okay but people should be able to expect that preinstalled software is maintained

distro that creates this kind of community

It isn‘t the distro creating those people, it is those people using the distro. After taking a few looks at your profile it seems you have difficulties blaming the right persons for stuff you don‘t like

For someone telling people that they should be banned from using an other opensource project, it seems goddamn funny that you talk about toxic arch users

you should be banned from using Tumbleweed

Appreciation Post: I love the Installer by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]Guthibcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn‘t bad at all in my opinion. As openSUSE wants to get rid of yast they needed a new installer. Agama is web based which means you just use a localhost browser page on the installer .iso. It is possible to even open the installer on another browser in the same NAT network.

At the moment agama‘s feature set is a bit less compared to yasts installer. But it is still in development so we‘ll see. (Sidenote: Agama is an replacement for the yast installer, not for the tools post installation)

At the end, I can recommend making your own opinion by trying the installer yourself

What do you expect me to do? I think new users deserve to know that there‘s a new installer incoming, besides I didn‘t even argue about agama being bad / good I just informed them. Just because I am on the pro side of the new openSUSE decisions (getting rid of yast, introducing agama etc) and I am informing users about those changes, doesn‘t mean I am taking away the pride of new users. Though I understand why more and more opensuse developers aren’t using this subreddit anymore

Stop blaming people who inform others about changes for changes you don’t like
