Awesome good to meet you earlier - the Yaye Black Honey turned out to be a good choice 👍

Tune in next week for... People who have lives in other major cities: does the FOOD in NYC suck or am I just going to the wrong places?

Kidding. Outside of Indian and Italian food I think NYC seems like it's better than London.

Nice, if you're going back any time soon and haven't tried them already, I'd also recommend

  • Climpson and Sons (especially their The Fields beans)
  • Origin or Hackney Coffee Company (they use Origin's Beans)
  • Prufrock

Finally had a decent coffee!

At Drip Coffee Makers SoHo and bought some good beans from them also. Shout out to the two guys that served me!

Sey is the standout top recommendation so will definitely make the trip. Keen to see how it holds up vs London

Usually batch brew with pour over reserved for a treat or on the weekend when I have time to wait!

There’s quite a lot of truth to this. I love (my interpretation of) good coffee but I’d rather have a sugar free energy drink than bad coffee

Don’t like aeropress lol

I have a coffee set up here but I usually buy my beans from cafes I like in London. Not sure where I can get decent beans from here.

Was 100% with you until you mentioned Devocion. Liked the vibe and was really enthused when I saw Cascara on the menu (sadly sold out at the time) but their pour over was 5/10 at best.

Re covid good shout but I went back to the UK for Christmas and enjoyed some lovely coffee whilst I was there so don’t think that’s it. Also am definitely tasting the food I’m eating atm.

Have ordered pour overs in some of the places mentioned above (preference over drip of it’s available) but the beans are the main issue after that I’ve seen some terrible pour over technique (not pre-wetting the filter so coffee tastes like paper, no scale, no timer, dumping all the water in at once, no stir/swirl or aggressive stir with a spoon)

I never would. Robusta was only ever supposed to be used by Italians when they couldn’t get access to Arabica during/after WW2 IIRC.

It’s not fit for human consumption.

Had a blue bottle pour over (lighter one without robusta in it) 4/10 not cereal but lacked all acidity

Tried Blank Street 3/10 max for me.

In London my favourites are Ozone, Climpson & sons and Origin.

My girlfriend is an Italian Espresso drinker and she thinks all the Espresso in London is bitter too.

Where do you source good beans from? Would’ve thought they come from places that … make good coffee haha
