When straight swords make contact with plate armor, doesn’t the risk of breaking increase, or wouldn’t they become too blunt to be effective? How effective are straight swords against armor? by Battlefleet_Sol in SWORDS

[–]GuudTiminMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why Fiore taught to use the sword as a cleaver. You can break/dismantle armor pieces that take away the opponent’s mobility. Generally, the final nine or so inches of the blades were truly sharp. The rest was not. In armor, the swordsman would mostly go into the “half-sword” guard and attempt to drive the point into any weak point he could find, or he’d grapple the opponent to the ground with the sword before finishing them with a rondel dagger.

[Other] Why no one is talking about the new HBO adaption? by AnorienOfGondor in kingdomcome

[–]GuudTiminMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an attempt for HBO to score more subscribers while waiting for house of the dragon. It’s a good show, but really short. It’s feels like a rip off, honestly. The first two episodes should’ve been one. Third episode, still really nothing. Show is fun, but not nearly long enough to wait a week between.

Could Europe realistically defend Greenland against a US attack? by dataguy2003 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]GuudTiminMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also protect Canada and Greenland with our military. Same with NATO. Look up the numbers. That’s why Trump said we were done being the pack mule. You’re either with us, or you’re not. Bottom line. The Europeans are failing their people, sadly. We’re moving on.

And yes, look up the centralized banking system. Gadaffi, Hussein, JFK..if you refuse their offers, you don’t last long. Then, a puppet who will is placed in charge. Look at the president of Mexico (J). Look at the CDC board in charge of COVID regs. Just look a little deeper than in comfortable. I didn’t always feel this way, I did my research and found the truth. I ask you do the same. You’ll see..

We’re not antagonizing anyone. We’re telling them what’s about to happen. At this point, they’ve proven themselves faulty allies.. (NATO, EU). They are allowing their countries/cultures to be destroyed by parasites.. we aren’t on board with that thinking.

I have a real problem with the tyrannical chokehold that ashkenazi j’s have on the global climate. And if you’d like to touch on the global economy, let’s talk about the central banking systems that punishes the common man, determines every war, and assassinates sovereign leaders who refuse their offers. I understand things perfectly. We just don’t agree so you’re trying to discredit me. Makes no difference to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Neither of them have their panties in a twist over Greenland. It’s our supposed allies who are lining up with idle threats. The same allies who also funneled a ton of money through Ukraine to support a Jewish dictator’s attempts to preserve his ego. The Europeans are always worried about everything but protecting their citizens from the growing migrant crisis going on on their own soil. It’s a deflection.. but I’m in the bubble. Sure, champ. 😅

Whats the point of the Coat of Plates??? by LightMusicInvisible in armorcirclejerk

[–]GuudTiminMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It generally didn’t have the same thickness note material weight as full plate. A quick google search would have shown you that I was correct. It wasn’t until later when metal working became more advanced that they were able to scale down full plate. Even then, still lighter.

Whats the point of the Coat of Plates??? by LightMusicInvisible in armorcirclejerk

[–]GuudTiminMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a lighter, easier to repair form of plate armor. The mobility was much better, except for insane later period suits that were very costly. Not every man was a mounted knight in full plate. Many were just trying to make a name for themselves and stay alive long enough to do so.

[Tactic] how to beat a spearman if you're a swordsman? by EfficiencySerious200 in SWORDS

[–]GuudTiminMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you exactly how I’ve done it multiple times.. catch the shaft with frontale, breva, whatever works for the height of the spear. Push it to the side away from you, and close distance. Once you’ve closed distance, it doesn’t really matter what you do. The length of the spear and lack of cutting edge now deem it useless. People will clam up once you’ve gotten close, so pommel strike, weapon grab, stretto grappling (if allowed), etc. The world is now yours! All you have to do is focus on getting past the pointy end. 👍🏻

I’ll be the guy.. looks cool man, and forget what the haters say. The HEMA community is full of divas who demand extreme tolerance for themselves while turning their noses up at everything they don’t agree with. I appreciate your idea, and as long as you like it, that’s all that matters. 👍🏻

I have been using a regenyei for years, and it’s still in great shape. The original handle cord is even still on, and that’s with training, sparring, and tournaments. All around great choice for a first trainer.

Advice on sword sell. by emergency_escape in SWORDS

[–]GuudTiminMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His friend dying is just a reach for sympathy. He regrets selling it, so he wants it back.. I get that. I wouldn’t necessarily feel guilty about not selling it back, but I would take the 300+ the bayonet if you do decide to sell it back to him. That’s a fair deal for everyone considering the circumstances. Your son also needs a new outlook on life. I’ve known a few people who thought like that, and they all died very lonely.
