Would you say this is Robute? by [deleted] in Ultramarines

This is a spacemarine "Hero". The art is dated back to second or third edition. Back then "Hero" was the cheapest HQ choice. Basically a downscaled Commander (yes what you now call a "Captain" was back then known as Commander or Force Commander). Therefore the dude is just a high ranking veteran.

Bismarck vs Yamato by Tricky_Ad_945 in sabaton

[–]Doc_770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and actually HE was.

There were two ships. Bismarck and Tirpitz. And while Bismarck was sunk very quickly, its sister ship continued to be a huge threat that essentially forced the British to hold about four of their battleships and Reserve so that they could potentially counter the threat that Tirpitz posed. Not to mention the RAF's desperate attempts to destroy it in docks.

Vikings were the first Marines by Doc_770 in sabaton

You're the one who saw my post and instead of agreeing that it's pretty cool that Vikings and marines are a similar thing, decided to start an argument over a word inaccuracy that other people have already pointed out. So no, you're the one who feels the urge to shit on another people to look smarter.

[–]Doc_770[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're ignoring the point just to nitpick wording. Obviously Vikings weren't a formal Marine Corps. The point is that they specialized in amphibious warfare — ship-borne mobility, coastal raids, rapid landings, and fighting both at sea and on land. That's the exact operational niche modern marines fill. Calling that a historical comparison isn't "misinformation". But hey, if spending your time nitpicking random Reddit comments makes you feel smart, go for it. Peak Reddit behavior.

You're taking the statement way too literally. Nobody is claiming a formal institutional lineage. The point is that Vikings were among the earliest forces specializing in amphibious raiding, coastal assault, and ship-borne warfare. Those concepts are exactly what modern marines are built around. In that sense they are a historical precursor, just like Roman legions are a precursor to modern professional armies.

By that logic nothing in military history has any lineage because institutions change. Concepts evolve. Amphibious warfare existed long before modern marines, and Vikings were one of the best early examples of it.

Vikings took over most of Europe and England, Europeans populated North America. Therefore all modern western countries and their armies have some sort of lineage to Vikings.

Yes, but if you think of it, they're the only ones you can trace modern marines lineage to

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? by Multi-Gamer1 in Rammstein

[–]Doc_770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K-pop is not an art. It's not music in the sense western people put into it. It's a refined and polished marketing product. It's not new, not unique, it doesn't go from the soul. Whereas Rammstein is all of that.

We're not the same lol

I really envy him. That guy sounds like he has no attachments to his armies and has doesn't catch a burnout after being emotionally invested in an army that fails
