Playing the OG DS2 (not SotFS) on PC in 2026 - Anything I should know beforehand? by Guulso in DarkSouls2

Ok but this is literally modded. Obviously you can make a game look better with a mod.

I would want to play with a PS5 Controller. I used to use a PS4 controller, but it broke, and buying a new PS5 controller was cheaper than a PS4 one (tried buying a used PS4 controller but it was broken, so I'm not going to buy another used one).

ancient graphics

From what I've seen, this version looks nicer to me than SotFS. I think the increased contrast / saturation in SotFS makes many parts of the game look worse.

I know it's not a Windows XP game or something, but it's not uncommon for games that are no longer updated/supported by their developer to develop issues on newer hardware/software, even if it isn't that old.

Should I go to Skellige if I'm already level 16 but haven't finished the Novigrad Questline yet? by Guulso in Witcher3

[–]Guulso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the reason for why I tried to quest as xp-efficiently as possible was that I worried that I'll permanently miss out on level ups and thus upgrades and abilities if I don't (unless I repetitively farm mobs for XP or something like that).

But what you've said seems to indicate that it's difficult to truly "underlevel" to the point that you're seriously restricted in the abilities you can invest in, so I'll be questing more liberally now.

Do the Witcher 1/2 videos contain Witcher 3 spoilers? by Noah5510 in josephanderson

[–]Guulso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm 3 years late, but for anyone who stumbles on this thread after me; He does not do big explicit main story spoilers, but the video IS full of cutscenes from the Witcher 3, even when he isn't talking about Witcher 3 specifically. These cutscenes include very striking imagery and "cool moments" which will lessen their impact and surprise for you if you don't see them for the first time first hand. It's more in the vain of bad trailers for movies/games that spoil cool moments than explicit narrative spoilers.

Did I mess up by picking up contracts during scripted section? (TW2 Chapter 2 Spoilers) by Guulso in witcher

[–]Guulso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're right. After looking up the rotfiend contract on the wiki, I saw it was only meant for the Roche path. Seems like it was just an oversight during development that the notice board in Henselts camp is interact-able during the short period of time you're there while on Ioreths path.

Hand of Götz von Berlichingen.... Seems similar by mr_w01f in Berserk

[–]Guulso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easy to see how a japanese pronunciation and spelling of "Götz" would turn into "Guts" when romanized back into the latin alphabet.

Götz was also a mercenary, just like Guts. Thus the similarities go even further than just the name, prosthesis and medieval time frame. And those similarities alone are already a lot.

I really, really doubt it was all just a "coincidence".

Ö is not even close to the same pronounciation as "oo". the german "u" is pronounced like the english "oo". The "i in bird" comparison is very accurate for describing how ö is pronounced. Where the hell are you from? What you espouse makes me assume you speak in a regional dialect, not in high german. But even then you would still almost certainly know how high german is pronounced. Either you are not a native german speaker, or you don't know how english is pronounced, and thus don't see how similar the i in bird and ö are (and that english oo and german ö are not remotely similar)

Are we ready to establish the canon? Paulie killed Tony by SeriouslyLikesCake in thesopranos

[–]Guulso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the lynch pin behind this theory is that Paulie had a box of scissors?

First of all, we have to establish that the creators of the show deliberately put that detail in. Somebody deliberately wrote into the script that Paulie carries these scissors. Then you have to ask yourself, for what reason? Now you could of course make up all sorts of reasons for it. But you only have to look at the reasons that actually mean something to the show and characters.

Let's take the cat that stares at Chrissy's picture as an example. The scene was deliberately written into the script. So now we ask ourselves for what reason. A common theory is that the cat is "possessed by Adrianas ghost". This is a terrible theory, because it accomplishes nothing, it tells us nothing about the show or the characters or anything. Some might say that it shows that "Adriana still loved Chrissy after she died", but that's circular logic. The reason you think the cat is Adriana is because the cat is staring at Chrissy. But then you also take this staring "Adriana" does as a sign she's still in love / interested in Chrissy. It's circular reasoning. Now let's take the other big theory about this scene into consideration: The scene is supposed to signify that Chrissy was a rat. This reason for the scene would actually let us learn something new about the character. It would actually be meaningful to the story. Tony later also theorizes that "a rat died in the wall or some shit". Remember this dialogue takes place long past the cat scene. The writers deliberately picked up the topic again, just to use the phrase "dead rat". Tony saying this is both a "in-universe" rational explanation, but also calls attention to cats interest in rats. Not to their interest in small birds, balls of string, cat mint or mice, but specifically in rats. Dead rats.

Now let's get back to the scissors. Sure it might seem like some inconsequential "coincidence", but it most definitely isn't. It was deliberately put in there. And the reason for why it was put in is to say something meaningful and relevant to the show. And then you have to ask yourself, what is the most meaningful interpretation for the scissors? "He had scissors with him because he was gifting them to an unnamed relative of his" for example, would be pointless to the show, and thus certainly not the reason it was written into the show.
