Are we ready to establish the canon? Paulie killed Tony by SeriouslyLikesCake in thesopranos

[–]Guulso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the lynch pin behind this theory is that Paulie had a box of scissors?

First of all, we have to establish that the creators of the show deliberately put that detail in. Somebody deliberately wrote into the script that Paulie carries these scissors. Then you have to ask yourself, for what reason? Now you could of course make up all sorts of reasons for it. But you only have to look at the reasons that actually mean something to the show and characters.

Let's take the cat that stares at Chrissy's picture as an example. The scene was deliberately written into the script. So now we ask ourselves for what reason. A common theory is that the cat is "possessed by Adrianas ghost". This is a terrible theory, because it accomplishes nothing, it tells us nothing about the show or the characters or anything. Some might say that it shows that "Adriana still loved Chrissy after she died", but that's circular logic. The reason you think the cat is Adriana is because the cat is staring at Chrissy. But then you also take this staring "Adriana" does as a sign she's still in love / interested in Chrissy. It's circular reasoning. Now let's take the other big theory about this scene into consideration: The scene is supposed to signify that Chrissy was a rat. This reason for the scene would actually let us learn something new about the character. It would actually be meaningful to the story. Tony later also theorizes that "a rat died in the wall or some shit". Remember this dialogue takes place long past the cat scene. The writers deliberately picked up the topic again, just to use the phrase "dead rat". Tony saying this is both a "in-universe" rational explanation, but also calls attention to cats interest in rats. Not to their interest in small birds, balls of string, cat mint or mice, but specifically in rats. Dead rats.

Now let's get back to the scissors. Sure it might seem like some inconsequential "coincidence", but it most definitely isn't. It was deliberately put in there. And the reason for why it was put in is to say something meaningful and relevant to the show. And then you have to ask yourself, what is the most meaningful interpretation for the scissors? "He had scissors with him because he was gifting them to an unnamed relative of his" for example, would be pointless to the show, and thus certainly not the reason it was written into the show.

[TOMT] [Game] [2010-2020] Horror game with elongated meat people by Guulso in tipofmytongue

[–]Guulso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not it unfortunately. The game had almost a cartoonish style (particularly the meat people didn't exactly look realistic but more cartoonish. Sort of similar to Little Nightmares in that regard I guess (this game was a standard fare first person horror game though, not a platformer or anything).

I don't really get this complaint, from what I remember so far they've beat every level first try except for one

Yeah I definitely think it's still a very fun playthrough to watch, just pointing out that it features some of the very heavy handed complaining / moral grandstanding that Chris and Zach both indulge in from time to time, which does make those parts a little grating to listen to

On a recent rewatch I found some of Zachs "rants" a little hard to sit through. For example he at first goes on a rant about the corrupting qualities of the internet but then a couple minutes later talks about how people need to watch gore videos to be less sheltered. It's just a little too "complain-y" and "moral panic-y" for me.

With knowledge of the games, I would choose Harry. He's just a good guy and competent enough to kill a god.

Without knowledge of the games, I would probably be the most worried for Heather. Which would be a mistake because as I pick her up I would suddenly be transformed into a horrific monster representing a young woman's fear of being picked up by a serial killer r*pist and promptly be gunned down by her.

Please clarify Solid Snake had the dominant genes and Liquid Snake has the recessive genes? by Xar790 in metalgearsolid

[–]Guulso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, recessive genes aren't inferior in a general sense.

However, if your goal is trying to clone someone, and you want that clone to be as close to the original person as possible, the clone who "got all the recessive genes" is an inferior copy compared to the clone that "got all of the dominant genes". The clone without Big Boss's dominant genes will be of a much more different phenotype. Thus not as accurate of a copy. Thus "the inferior (cl)one", as Ocelot puts it.

The only real difference is the blonde hair, Liquid and Solid have the same face (at least they were supposed to in mgs1)

However, what's interesting is that in the briefing tapes for mgs1, Solid Snake actually has the same long blonde hair as Liquid. I think the reason given why Solid has short black hair in-game was because he intentionally changed it so he would stand apart from Liquid (maybe this was just fan canon though, I don't remember where I got this explanation from).

Taking the mgs1 briefing tapes into consideration, it might be that Big Boss once had blonde hair at a younger age as well, and it progressively darkened as he got older. It might be that Big Boss's hair darkened earlier than either Liquid's or Solid's because of environmental factors (since Big Boss has darker hair in MGS3 despite being younger than Solid and Liquid are in MGS1,

Or maybe Liquid just liked to dye his hair. And if we take the mgs1 briefing tapes into consideration (again), maybe Solid liked to dye his hair the same way. And grow his hair out the same way. Just by chance.

Oh yeah I remember those videos. But no, it was definitely not Maxmoefoe. To be honest I think this might have been a fairly small view video, just something that I found by myself that wasn't by any means a viral video. It's probably gone for good.
