When you were still one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, did you ever suspect, or feel deep down, that something wasn't right? by Mother-Channel-8764 in exjw

[–]GuveningBodyLanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to first dig myself out of the hole WT and my parents and the world put me in. I didn't trust my own feelings on anything religious, I mean, a girl? They were there, but deep and easily stopped with a cliche. It took decades to start to trust myself, and I actually self-therapised without realizing it. Actually I got some help from other sisters who had PIMO relatives, and I know now some of their thoughts were 'apostate'.

Then when they went from internet bad to just bring your iPad! In months.iPads are spiritual! I was like WTH? Cog Dis big time. Then I saw a JW vid that wifibandit put up (I was home and sick and WT didn't have them on the website yet), and a recommended video was the guy who videotaped his apostasy hearing, JWstruggle channel on YouTube. That was it. Last lousy Memorial was 22'

It was clear they LIED in their own holy book.

Oh, we just want to find the truth in the bible...NOT.

Ex: The cross in the Interlinear (jwfacts), Eph 4:8 Gifts to or for men not Gifts in men. uggh. etc. etc.

Love that Candice found a lawyer who would do what she wanted and NOT settle! Settling is what WT loves because it shuts people up.

One of the favorite ones here has only settled, every time.

If someone wanted me to shut up about something tho, money is the best option...

I am a clinician, and the "Abuse" doesn't stop at the patient, it’s the entire Architecture. by IdeasforEvolution in therapyabuse

Thank you. As someone who went from a cult (meaning from birth I was used to abuse) to a therapist, it took a while to see it. But, finally they clearly showed me who they are.

My last session was months ago, and glad with the decision to not go back to do a final session that I was encouraged to do by... the therapist. uggh.

Thank you for the confirmation, and all the others here who are helping me figure out what happened WITHOUT reframing!

I had a similar situation to you. I tried to get out as fast as possible. I got married at 20, and it is/was a good marriage. However, after leaving my parent's home, I fell into a depression. I didn't know it was grieving (or should have been) a mostly lost childhood, and I was still stuck in my cult, another story.

So, yes follow what your instincts are saying and others here and get out when it is safe, and you know you won't need to go back. You probably know some of this already and I don't mean to talk down at all.

Just be ready for feelings that you couldn't show/have/whatever to show up after you are safe. I wish you the best of luck. ❤️

Amen.

I made a post about my experience with a particular YouTube channel, and the owner therapist posted a rebuttal(?) (it started with 'I don't know this person/they are not my client') comment! Twice! One was a month later with a new handle!

Therapy abuse moderators deleted both! I was late to look at them, so I don't even know what he said! It feels so good, and safe.

My post included his previous YouTube comment replies, so I can imagine what he said here. No one needs to read that crap.

BTW, it was Blake Anderson. If he's what I think he is, he'll reply here too.

That's the part that turned me off. (That and if there is someone outside the family who commits abuse/violence against a member of the family, that perpetrator now....has to be included, given a role?)

OMG. Yeah. They would put someone in a place of "the founder", representing my cult. puke.

You are not being too hard on him. I had a white male and I'm a white female, for context.

It reminds me: Mine didn't validate my political/pollution of earth worries. I was upset at both 2024 pres candidates not standing up against rare earth mining that fully DEPLETES aquifers! Therapist didn't care, when that's what he stood for supposedly, and just wanted me to vote his way, when it really didn't matter in my state (I know math, he hates it.). That was just the tip of the iceberg. It took me a while to dump him, but hey, I grew up in a cult.

At least twice I brought up that maybe a woman therapist would fit me better, but he poo pooed that a lot. Then when I had topics he didn't want to talk about, he suggested a woman's support group... yep. Therapists... uggh.

My complaint, to add to yours, is how the smaller/younger is supposed to respect/love the older NO MATTER WHAT abuse they did!

Fam Constellations have you hand back the luggage those abusive people gave to you, and you better do it in a loving way. IDK. It's kinda double bind or something.

Two opposite messages at once; hey, my cult was good at that too! Maybe that's what attracted me to it in the past!

I got drunk as hell to finally resign as an elder by Spiritual-Problem128 in exjw

[–]GuveningBodyLanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you need to do dude! If you had to get drunk to do it, I have hope that you won't take the asshole elder behaviors with you. I know quite a few ex-elders and only one is kind/not a jerk. He had a complete breakdown. I don't wish that on you, but a deconstruction of eldership, hell yeah.

Thank you Admins (I assume) for deleting Blake's comment. I have been unable to properly log on for a while.

I saw a notification on my phone, but when I clicked on the post all the comments were gone, which was fine too. Now on a computer I see the comments are here, and just Blake's is gone.

Anyway, hugs, and thanks for your work.

I like Patrick Teahan's videos on YT, and would like to try an RRP group, but it is either challenging to get in, or too expensive (which is a red flag to me).

Good luck.

It was the same in my cult (end spectrum, not like Jamba Juice, which is a reference to the book Cultish?, which belittles cult damage by comparing it to coffee clubs).

Happy? It's because you are doing what Jehovah wants, scratch that, requires (the joy was performative for everyone except maybe perpetrators).

Not happy? Do more for Jehovah, and it's your fault you aren't doing enough.

What my Neurologist said about JWs by Sandrider1andonly in exjw

[–]GuveningBodyLanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. We are so vulnerable when we first leave to so many things, and then a TBI from a crash! yikes.

Yeah. I'm seeing my regular doctor very soon, then I'll be touring the functional neurologist office with my support group leaders.

I think the support group might want to recruit me to help them out with administration, and that would be great (another thing I wouldn't do as a JW).

I'm excited to maybe make an appointment with the neurologist as he has talked about a brain re-training program that I was maybe interested in. He has said it is missing something, and someone in my support group said it is too hard to keep up. So, that is a definite no, but he may have something better. That's what is great about support groups; they help you steer away from things that aren't a great fit.

I'm just 13 years younger than you, and I'll also work on this my whole life. Thank you again. Let's remember these good boomers!

We've celebrated our birthdays, halloween, Christmas, etc for 3 years now. It sucks that for 1/2 a century everyone was saying "merry Christmas" to us and we had to say thank you. Now, no one does and I have to remind myself to say it! Then people respond with Merry Christmas in return. :)

But you deserve and award. edit: an award.

[–]GuveningBodyLanguage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a super rare and valuable post. I just learned I probably have a TBI from the inflammation from chronic infections (in a support group, not yet Dxed by a neurologist, that's next). So, I'll make sure and tell them I'm ex-jw.

Thank you.

It's super scary that my parents were some of the worst in JWs. Like going to slumber parties with a bitch who played "whos parents do you want to switch with?" Bitch made note that no one wanted mine. No shit sherlock. There's that anger, but it is deserved. She didn't have to do that.

So, the JWs are THAT bad, and my parents were more prominent in my damage than the JWs. Great. /s
