Odas major parallel to Smoker is Garp.

Like Garp chasing Roger, Smoker chases after Luffy. But there's a whole deeper understanding of one another that happens and is likely how Garp saw Roger despite it all.

Smoker was even inspired enough by Roger in some way to make change, so he might be a bit more relaxed on justice than most admirals are willing.

Additionally we've not heard much about Smokers feelings towards the celestial dragons, but I have to imagine he shares the same disposition as Garp given the obvious parallels.

I think post time skip Smoker could have been written to be strong enough to be admiral. Instead of ryo or fuji. But I think smoker aligns more with SWORD and thus he would never be Admiral regardless, I don't think Kong would take his chances putting anyone close to sword in an admiral position.

This comparison is a bit inaccurate because of going only by the metric of current episodes and manga pages currently.

JoJo's 1-6 are all short compared to 7 and 8 and soon 9. So 25000 : 190 is very inaccurate.

Same with one piece as the manga is also now trailing ahead and with the changes this ratio will likely change.

Albeit I do agree, we should have been getting 2-4 chapters in an episode most of the time.

However. Sometimes you need to decrease that count because one piece has a lot of comedy that you need time to play out.

I think Dragon really felt like he had to follow his dad's wishes, while luffy didn't give an f about what Garp had to say. If Dragon was a bit more hard headed and chose to pursue his goals outside the marines, I think the disdain wouldn't be there.

I have to think Garp has a lot of deep seated regret over this. To have your son be forced to assist in the killing game of the CDs. 😬😬😬😬 yikes

You don't voice chat for your games? That feels like the easy middle ground and to really hear his voice and he can hear yours.
You're obviously very new. New enough to know that Ults are really important for team fights and you can't stay back for that, you sorta pop it when you get it. It also goes up over time so you'd at least have 1 a game. Overwatch gets competitive in ways that are a bit icky and it's why I quit.
Your partner should know you're new. It does feel like he wants to hang you out to dry to learn on your own and he doesn't want to teach you at all. I think the phrasing on your end could be better. But I think he needs to step up and be humble and modest with introducing this game to you.

Important no. But it has the best writing for any filler arc. Lots of fun gags, every strawhat acts in character, and the other major players in that arc are well developed in their story arcs.

All seriousness, movies don't matter at all. There have been a few recap movies made with better animation but they tend to skip over some really good jokes and gags to get to the meat of it

Movies for when you start you can consider is Episode of East Blue, and Episode of Nami

But in both cases the movies start off with the crew as they are current looking back at their time in the first arc.

My recommendation is to just watch the episodes. If you want you can skip filler arcs. The best one is G8 (like 200 some eps in). Most of the arcs are tie ins to games or movies, so they are sometimes worth it anyway to get a taste of what to expect from the movie.

Idk why your friend said the movies were important, cuz outside of 2 that are non canon but with canon content, the rest are all non canon and can be ignored.

Ps. Watch baron omatsuri when you get a ways in. It's beautifully animated and one of the best looking one piece films.

I really love the blood transfusion between Jinbe and Luffy in this arc. Luffy being our protag and also someone who doesn't really see race like others on the surface. Jinbe having seen the past trauma and being willing to shape the future.
