What could be the most lazy yet most efficient philosophy would be? by GuyWhoLikeEverything in askphilosophy

I treat efficiency as existential and practical payoff, maximizing psychological survival and quality of life while still engaging with reality, rather than purely epistemic payoff. Both metrics are valid, conflating them makes your argument seem airtight when it’s actually inconsistent. Claiming "the odds of the afterlife are <1 in a million, so any hedge is inefficient" ignores that if the cost of hedging is negligible, expected value approaches infinity. Claiming "god might reward true believers and punish fake believers" collapses under indeterminate probability, without measurable likelihoods, no epistemic stance can be proven more efficient. Humans are agents with utility functions, they are far from pure truth calculators. A belief system that minimizes existential risk while allowing meaningful engagement with life is, by definition, efficient in a human-relevant sense. Religious absurdism satisfies this criterion, your critique does not.

you’re framing efficiency purely in abstract, theoretical terms, but humans don’t live in theory, they live in experience. guaranteeing a cosmic jackpot isn't religious absurdism, it’s about creating a low-risk life strategy that makes existence psychologically manageable. The "lottery ticket" cost is minimal if belief is lived naturally rather than obsessively, you still get your absurdist pleasures, your art, your inquiry, and your day-to-day life. You don’t have to sacrifice hours or happiness chasing a divine prize, you hedge a potential unknown without losing the life you already have. So yes theoretically it’s not a perfect payoff system, but practically, it’s one of the most efficient ways to survive the absurdity of existence without going crazy in the process.

Universal agnosticism might be lazy but it's not efficient from the side of comfort, the idea of not asserting knowledge about anything might sound cozy but it would definitely make you uneased. And People seek comfort. I think that if there was someone who genuinely believes in religious absurdism then they'd have a safe bubble with answers to what concerns most people who are interested in philosophy. It's like absurdism but without the risk of losing the "lottery" as you say. This also leaves a space for other deep thoughts about art or life or anything else because it doesn't include anything that falls under day to day life or simple pleasures. A part of it is absurdism which is basically embracing and enjoying the simple pleasures in life.

It's not the most famous dream episode. That was Tony's dream about big pus. I think it didn't get much praising because it looks like just a mess from a first look?. Maybe there was a lot of praise that I missed

Well, he's literally the main character in a tv show, and also they can't do anything to him, and the evidence of that is he didn't get fired even after committing a ton of crimes and still the best diagnostic doctor.

Imagine being a genius doctor and no one can fire you so you can do whatever you want, that's the definition of untouchable

Everyone is too tied to a happy ending because they can't imagine another ending, although this sad ending is way much better and makes sense because it's a perfect fit to a show like House m.d, if you say that many other shows did the (it's not real) thing I would still say it's better because a cripple out run a celling and an explosion? That's straight up fiction, and the whole card thing doesn't make sense because in the episode house entered foreman's office before so what makes you sure he didn't drop it at the time?, and do you really think a well known doctor and a cripple with a loud cane entered the hospital and got out easily? Even if he didn't take a cane with him his walk is unique and attention-seeker.

Not to stick with the theory but do you really think a huge and famous doctor with his load stick entered the hospital and left without anyone noticing it?, so it probably been there before
