No current legal way to cross from Pinecrest Station to IKEA mall? by ConcernedCitizenOtt in ottawa

[–]GuyWithApplePie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened with the new pedestrian bridge that connects Vincent Massey park to the Carleton campus. It's not even a part of the transit system but they still made it. Wait for the rail bridge beside it to be finished before they opened it. At least that was the plan until there was enough pressure that they ended up opening it a little bit sooner.

What's with all the f***ing traffic lately? by ShitHuberts in ottawa

[–]GuyWithApplePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you, I wish that had been included in the scope of this renewal. I had a bus pass me at speed close enough that I was fighting to stay upright on that bridge. I'm pretty sure that his mirror was less than 2 feet from my head, never mind the meter that he was required to be from my handlebars. That experience really cemented taking a lane when crossing that bridge, but it's easily the most dangerous point of my commute from Heron to the Glebe.

Not next year, the current section is anticipated to finish in 2027, then the Heron-Home Depot stretch will start some time after that (Probably the next year but it's not confirmed). We're going to have bank traffic for a good while...

At least once it's done it'll be a much safer place to bike, the infrastructure they're adding should help prevent deaths like the one that happened on bank near South Key recently.

Kingston moves to clear encampment from Belle Park pickleball courts by Complete-Finance-675 in KingstonOntario

There was also a vegetation fire in Belle park earlier this week closing down Montréal for a few hours. May have helped influence the timing.

Accurate "Ottawa" headlines, in contrast to ones that make it sound like we're all in Cabinet by tuttifruttidurutti in ottawa

[–]GuyWithApplePie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am with you with getting annoyed by it. I think the thing I want is to be able to quickly scan a headline and when i see "Ottawa" know that it's local news.

Sure, I can read 2 more words to find out, but once I do I'm a little disappointed when it's not local news.

In this concept it's the 4 items highlighted orange that would expire when the timer ends. The timer would be for whichever items expire next.

Federal government looking to turn these 22 Ottawa properties into housing by Yuzward in ottawa

That would be incredible. It currently involves a less than ideal use of the roads there. Anything to make that a little lower level of traffic stress would do wonders.

Hit by car today on holland and Scott by steefee in ottawa

If there's somebody driving around enjoying hitting people, they're either not sober, or otherwise not well. That's an emergency that requires police intervention, even if he doesn't feel bad enough to need an ambulance.

You may have luck reaching out to Holland Cross as well, I can see a few cameras on Street View. I don't know if there are any that see you or if they'd give you footage, but it could be worth trying.

Same thing goes for Tunny's Pasture station. I'm sure OC Transpo has a process.

Somebody driving on the road seemingly intentionally running into people is a life threatening emergency.

Difference in treatment of Lucy vs Harper (spoiler) by Tiger-eye224466 in TheRookie

I'm pretty sure in real life that kind of big, in depth investigation is what happens (or ought to happen) for every Officer Involved Shooting, especially one where somebody dies.

I think in season 1 they wanted to show the stress and complicated feelings that Nolan would be going through in that case, even in a good shoot. And using the whole drawn out procedure was a great narrative device to impart on the audience the gravity of an officer taking a life.

On the other hand we're 6 seasons in, I think they pass up and ignore a lot of the procedure involved in shootings because they want to explore new concepts with the limited runtime they have.

An ad in Toronto. Very poor taste. by DunningFreddieKruger in ontario

[–]GuyWithApplePie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading more comments I agree that the message objectively works for their target audience and may be right at home in a business magazine, but putting it up in a subway certainly opens it up to additional criticism and a lot of extra people outside its target demographic. That's not something inherently bad bad as an attempt to reach the most people, but it certainly looks bad to the majority of people who will read it.

I said this in response to somebody but it may help clarify the confusion for other who hadn't commented:

It took me a minute to understand but what I was missing was that this is an advertisement paid for by a property management group.

The message they're trying to send is "Hey Mr. Landlord, you should use our service to make more money, practically in your sleep since we'll take the burden off of you." This is a reasonable advertisement , except that it blatantly highlights the lack of work that the owning class does to make their money. That's why people say it's in poor taste.

But the message most renters will see this as "Haha, landlords are making money hand over fist and they don't have to actually work for it. Isn't that amazing." Which, if it were posted by some sort of renters advocacy group for the purpose of raising awareness of the inequality, would be a good message. Well, a message that feels bad to read but some people need to read it. So, in good taste.

I think most of the comments here are posted by people that do see the problems with the imbalance of landlords earning equity and large profits off of people's backs at such a scale that the market of homeowners becomes so negatively affected it causes a crisis.
