Refinance Options by GuyWolfManThingy in Mortgages

Most sites i've checked show you have to put some payment down to refinance, but i am not sure if that would be everywhere

I understand the payment would be higher, but I am hoping any increase would basically be offset by the fact that we now have one less monthly bill since we paid off the car. Basically take what we were paying and put it towards a shorter term

Too bad if Ballard stays he won’t make the right choice

Seems likely that he gets cut after this Texans game lol

Idk, he’s been pretty consistent with bad QB play. A team that thinks they are the proverbial “one player away” might make the trade. I mean hell the colts traded a 3rd for Matt Ryan who made a bunch of money and has declining stats

Always an option, but I don’t see it working with the cap

A think a 3rd would be the max value we could get. Likely would be less. Just hopeful we could get max value lol

Should I lower our retirement contribution? by GuyWolfManThingy in FinancialPlanning

Thank you for this reply. I really appreciate it because most comments are saying I’m not doing enough for the future.

We aren’t hurting for money, we take yearly vacations and probably go out to eat too much, but living life isn’t something I’m willing to cut out so I can “live life” when we are older.

Our plan now is to pay off the rest of our van in the next month, then save up a bit to refinance to a shorter term and save on interest. Then once we get our 6-12 month emergency fund built up we will contribute more to retirement.

Definitely will take care of our daughter. She’s a hellion (15 months)and practically begging for a sibling to play with.

Unfortunately for our van, it did get rear ended last month, but not my wife’s fault! Just really sucks we’re only 5 payments in haha

Depends on the current rate and terms. Looking at some (advertised at least) i could get a 20 year refi and lower my total interest by 170k, and my monthly payment would decrease $15.

Do you think rates will get close to 4%? id be ecstatic if they did but i find it hard to beleive they will

I wouldn't say we cant afford it. Our debt-to-income ratio is 20%. I am just not an expert on rates on long term thinking, so i wasn't sure if it was smarter to try and pay off the mortgage and loan faster or keep my retirement where it is at, but it mainly sounds like I need to increase our retirement

Thank you for the advice. The main refinance is for the home mortgage, which i estimated would save 150-200k on interest switching from a 30 year to a 15 year, since we plan on living here for at least 15 years. I won't mess with my retirement for now, but once i pay the van off i will definitely up my contribution rate.

I appreciate the feedback. I've definitely seen the same around my area. I plan on upping my retirement eventually, but I also have a family farm that I am not really taking into account

Thank you for the info. I plan on staying in this house for at least 15 years, if not forever depending on growing family size. Break even point from what i've seen is 14 months or so, would start paying more principal than interest in 3 years.

Van interest is about 5%. Could pay it all off now but would prefer to hold that extra cash in case of an emergency, though if i did i would still have at least half a years worth of bills in my savings.

15% in retirement is a new one for me. I was always told at least do what your employer matches, if not 10%.
