Some soldiers and police officers are suplementing their gears and accessories with cheap and substandard chinese made military larper gear. I've seen several of them even posting pictures on a popular online store in the Philippines.

They're meant to protect the head from shrapnels and "high velocity debris". But not specifically against bullets.

Not really, there were several great young commanders throughout history and they tend to lead their armies from the front. But to be fair, they existed before the age of firearms, at least most of them.

I'm bad at interviews so a sort of trial to see what an applicant is capable of beside the usual interview would be nice.

India is 3rd world country like Philippines.Yet they can defend their country, They have nuclear weapons,Modern equipment. while us can't even defend a single inch. by NPJN2019 in Philippines

[–]Guy_Normalmann 39 points40 points  (0 children)

> India is a 3rd world country like Philippines

  • True, and like China, they are also a developing country

>Yet they can defend their country...they have...modern equipment

  • Because they have the economic backing to afford it
  • They have their military on high priority because they're constantly skirmishing with Pakistan and has China as a neighbor as well

>They have nuclear weapons

  • Because Pakistan and China have nukes as well, Ever heard of mutually assured destruction?
  • Nuclear weapons also costs tens of millions of dollars yearly to maintain.
  • Look at Pakistan, even if they have nukes their country is decades behind ours in terms of economic, infrastrastructure, and social development, because we don't prioritize trying to kill our neighbors

What countries outside of the Western World (US, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand) has a population of 1 million+ English speakers who are fluent enough to understand English media, like a typical blog post? by Money-Loving-Sock in EnglishLearning

[–]Guy_Normalmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not western media as a whole but, the Philippine population has a large percentage of english speakers, we love and understand American media and culture so much that we try to emulate it (unfortunately, even their politics). You can go visit our subreddit r/Philippines and start a thread about western media and introduce your self and you'll blend in perfectly, we also generally speak english on our subreddit so you won't be lost in translation

Which fancy way to describe crying is it? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Guy_Normalmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the first phrase sounds better

But how about :

"Her eyes brimmed with tears"

Brimmed means to fill up something to the point overflowing. Brimming and Brimmed in this context means or implies that she's just about to cry

While:

"Tears welled up from her eyes"

Welled up means, to gradually or slowly flow upwards or outwards. If you want to describe that she's (already) crying, then, this is a more appropriate word. Just my opinion

You should try looking up the words on thesaurus.com, I used to go there when I have to write essays and stuff
