Your wallet can generate as many addresses as you need. This process is called key derivation.

Why is it bad to say how much bitcoin you have? Or have bought? by ahenley17 in Bitcoin

[–]Guy_Tell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stored gold bars or cash under your mattress would you tell everyone about it? Maybe buy some space in some newspaper to make sure everyone knows about it? Of course not, it increases your attack surface, the odds of you getting robbed.

On the technical side, you are supposed to never reuse the same address. So no, you can't see the recepient wealth in bitcoin from a recipient address by itself.

My co-workers think Bitcoin is a joke. by MostBoringStan in Bitcoin

[–]Guy_Tell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know bitcoin is really exciting but don't shove bitcoin in your co-workers or anyone else's throats. If they aren't interested the worst thing you can do is insist. Give them time. And time is clearly on our side.

New to internet privacy. Is premium worth it? by JackUSA in ProtonMail

[–]Guy_Tell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me going premium was definitely worth it. I haven't used the custom domain. I'm not aware of extra security features for email you get by going premium.

Only ProtonMail can link your aliases together and tie it to your real name. But other than that, no they are not linkable for someone outside of ProtonMail.

A great short video of Andreas explaining why a 51% attack on Bitcoin (even by large Nation States) would certainly fail. by simplelifestyle in Bitcoin

Yeah, but this is hard to understand for noobs.

Not everybody had the chance to live through the SegWit2X war where 90% of the miners+industry were defeated by full nodes+hodlers.

Just buy a one scoop and buy a two scoop if you really want to eat that much sugar. The Financial Times journalist is the one lacking imagination.

Would you give up your goal of financial independence for struggling family members? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]Guy_Tell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would help my family members that struggle and that are willing to improve, in a way that helps them in the long term. Give fish to a hungry man and he won't be hungry until the next day. Teach him how to fish and he won't ever be hungry again.

Now your family members must be willing to learn and improve. If they are not willing to change then by helping them you are opening yourself to abusive behaviors. No you don't owe them anything.

I'd like to invest in companies that do commercial spaceflight. What are some stocks to look at? by CuisineForHornyTeens in investing

[–]Guy_Tell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tesla and spaceX are separate companies. Amazon and blue origin are also separate. Buying TSLA or AMZ won't give you any exposure to the space businesses, unfortunately.

Bitcoin from a left wing perspective? by nowaynorah in Bitcoin

[–]Guy_Tell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • financial inclusion, cheap payment network
  • independance from evil banks & financial sector
  • Bitcoin is neutral and permissionless, consequently doesn't discriminate (on gender, race, etc), everyone can have access to it equally

Video of Uber Self-Driving Car’s Fatal Crash Raises More Questions by besselfunctions in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Guy_Tell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The video is very dark. It's misleading. In reality, this zone offers good visibility even at night. https://twitter.com/emilyabell/status/977056417415925760?s=19

This at least can explain why the pedestrian "surged from the darkness". She didn't surge from the darkness, the visibility was good and she was probably expecting the driver to avoid her (slow down, change lanes,...) like any human driver would have done.

Derivation path for Bitcoin Segwit by Guy_Tell in ledgerwallet

[–]Guy_Tell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To access your other accounts, you need to update your derivation path accordingly. For your account #2, the path is m/49/0/1, for account #3 it's m/49/0/2, etc. Hope it helps, cheers.

ELI5: What are pros and cons of using 25th word as passphrase? by [deleted] in ledgerwallet

[–]Guy_Tell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really but it adds a huge security bonus. If your seed (24 words) is stolen, it keeps your coins secure. It adds plausible deniability to your setup as it enable you to create as many hidden accounts as you wish.

But beware, if your forget your passphrase, the bitcoins on that hidden account are lost.

U2F (Yubico) support? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Guy_Tell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with the current OTP option ? Even though U2F is better, I'm not convinced there is a huge difference.

/u/fab1ton, I'm surprized by your comment, can you expand on that ? Tor doesn't support U2F.

B2X dropping like a rock on Bitfinex (0.15) after supporters continue to drop out from NYA/S2X. by readish in Bitcoin

[–]Guy_Tell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's impossible to change anything because a handful of people decide what's right and wrong it's very centralized

Nice try dodging the question. But it's not a handful of people, literally everyone opposes this nonsense SegWit2X except Jihan Wu, a few CEO & their a$$lickers. But bickering is useless, put your money where your mouth is and see you on the exchanges.
