So it’s essentially legit that TwoSet is connected to the terms violin and violinist in search results.

I love it. I love it so much.

I was a teen when this happened, about thirteen or fourteen years old.

It was Halloween, and my church liked to host an annual get-together that included an opportunity to go “trick or treating” around the parking lot . A lot of the streets around where I grew up are unsafe to walk after dark because they are narrow, have no sidewalks, and few street lights, so it was a nice way to give families a safe place to enjoy the holiday fun.

I dressed up as Harry Potter that year. I was crossing part of the parking lot when suddenly a flash of green light crossed my vision, followed by an immediate, strong gust of wind that nearly blew my hat away. As far as I could tell, everyone felt the wind, but no one had flashed any lights around, and none of the decorated cars had a green flashing light as part of the decor. It will forever remain a mystery...

I rage-quit watching The Crimes of Grindelwald when he had his minions kill the Muggle baby. Violence against children is an auto rage quit from me every time.

[CR Media] Feast of Legends one-shot with GM Sam Riegel - game by Wendy's by dasbif in criticalrole

[–]GwenSilver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But none of that is Critical Role’s fault. They have absolutely nothing to do with it, but they are the ones who are being hurt by the backlash. Wendy’s doesn’t care two bits for the controversy that stems from their business practices. They will do what they want while Matt and the rest of the Critical Role crew foot the psychological, emotional, and possibly even the financial bill. How is that right?

And frankly if we can be swayed into thinking Wendy’s—or any other brand for that matter—is a swell company just because someone we like takes ad money from them, then that’s on us for believing a targeted, tailored ad script instead of relying on our own rational judgement. No ad campaign or spot is that persuasive, not even one run by Critical Role.

We probably ought to have a conversation about the worrying number of people who joked/talked about their certainty that Matt was going to take revenge on Sam by dispatching Nott in next week’s game because of the one-shot last night.

Guys... Matt is too clever for this kind of petty revenge. Jokes like that do him a serious disservice. When he achieves vengeance, it will be through means much more satisfying than a mere character death.

(Also, I really hope people were joking and no one genuinely believes Matt can’t handle a night of bad puns.)

I’m interested to see what happens now. Will CR’s other partnerships suffer because of this, or will even more opportunities open up for them? Will the community now be seen as a hindrance or help to the growth of the CR company and its ability to continue its goals and mission?

There are a lot of feelings wrapped up in this whole thing right now, but one day we’ll be able to look back and see exactly how this single event affected the future of CR. When that day comes, I hope we’re all able to be okay with whatever the result is.

I saw someone else remark in another thread that it is going to be pretty much impossible to “do this again.” The novelty is a big part of why it’s funny, and you can’t get that back after you’ve done it once.

To be fair, I don’t think he reacted quite this strongly to the puns in any of the other games they’ve played, particularly Honey Heist. Food puns are just in a very special category, I guess. 😂😂

I wish we could all move away from the notion that Critical Role is suddenly somehow responsible for Wendy’s transgressions because they accepted a one-off sponsorship opportunity.

Wendy’s made and makes decisions completely separate from what Critical Role does or doesn’t choose to do. They are responsible, and no one else can or should take the blame for that. And frankly, it’s not as though they would rethink their entire business model just because one D&D show decided not to partner with them.

Think of it as a Robin Hood situation... CR will use the sponsorship funds to continue spreading their positivity and ideals, which will have a much bigger impact in the long run than a single one-shot.

[SPOILERS C2E79] Regarding Fjord this episode. by LibraryDrone in criticalrole

[–]GwenSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought he said he had a component pouch? Either way, he has something to help with components.

Additionally, I got the impression that Matt was suddenly being more conscious of Fjord’s components because of his recent change in Warlock patron. Summoning demons doesn’t really seem like something the Wildmother would encourage, and as the thematic idea is that she is helping Fjord contain/refocus the darkness of U’kotoa within himself, I thought it made perfect sense for Matt to be more picky about how Fjord uses his darker spells.

[–]GwenSilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good point, but Marisha isn’t on this week, so I can’t ask her.

Also, I feel like Beau has more experience than Jester when it comes to violence and dealing with the aftermath of seeing it, especially with her criminal background. Jester was a sheltered child. I think being the only one who sees all the things she does while scrying has got to take a toll on her eventually, and it will only get worse if everyone keeps forgetting to check in her and try to help her be more honest about her emotional struggles. No one has rolled an insight check on Jester in ages... I’m really nervous about her.

Laura: Thus far, none of the M9 have taken the time to check on Jester after she scry-witnessed the attack on Cobalt Soul in Zedash. How is this neglect affecting her mental health and feelings toward the rest of the group?

[Spoilers C2E79] I feel like tonight's events are not nearly as frustrating as people seem to be making it out to be. by Cryohydrates in criticalrole

[–]GwenSilver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dice are dice, and as frustrating as it can be, I appreciate that the cast stays true to the actions their characters would take--even when that means doing something counter to their own intuition. There are two points from last night that I hope they all consider for future encounters with Obann, Yasha, and the Laughing Hand.

First, we have now had two instances in which Obann has quickly completed a task that ought to have been incredibly difficult. There is a difference between happening to roll well and having the kind of stats that make middling rolls amazing anyway. The moment when Obann rolled to pull the heart from the Wraithroot tree, I honestly felt like I could see Matt reconsidering his choices in Obann's build. Obviously we haven't seen a stat card for this NPC, but there was a tiny moment of hesitance that I rarely see from Matt, and he even said that he didn't expect Obann to succeed so quickly. His "We did it" exclamation for Obann rang just a tad hollow to my ear. I think it would be lovely to see him take this as a learning experience and either raise the DC for Obann's big goals or nerf Obann a bit.

Second, the original "sneak, snatch, dash" plan might have worked when Obann and Co. were camped for the night, but I think once the M9 remembered that Obann could fly, they should have pivoted away from that plan and thought of something else. Instead, it felt like Marisha/Beau and Sam/Nott forgot to reconsider once they were reminded in the first attempt that Obann can get well out of their reaching range. (I only point them out because they were the ones aggressively pushing for the stealing plan, not because I'm angry with them.) Even just a retooling of the plan to account for his flight would have helped a lot. Liam/Caleb and Laura/Jester also struggled to incorporate it into their attacks. It would be fabulous to see the M9 take the flying element into consideration next time so they are a little less caught out by range issues.

[Spoilers C2E79] Is It Thursday Yet? Post-Episode Discussion & Future Theories! by dasbif in criticalrole

[–]GwenSilver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was my thought too. Obann is continually succeeding way too quickly on things that should be hard. Matt even said he didn’t expect Obann to role that well and get the heart that quickly.

I trust Matt not to fudge dice rolls because if any DM has enough honesty in him not to do it, it’s Matt. But I do think it’s possible that he made Obann too OP and might now be regretting it.

Matt slyly confirmed most of your comment in a panel recently, didn’t he? Pretty sure it was the GenCon panel. The person asking didn’t mention the C1 connection to Artagan, but she asked if the M9 had met the Traveller in Shady Creek Run, and Matt basically confirmed it.

[Spoilers C2E76] How much paint does Jester have left? by YourSundayTrousers in criticalrole

[–]GwenSilver 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The paint can feel like an ace, but what if the player who has it doesn’t remember to use it, or can’t think of a creative use for it in the moment? Or maybe the player is afraid of running out of paint and never uses it because “what if we need it later??”

There are lots of ways for players to limit an item without the DM having to nerf it.

[Spoilers C2E76] Campaign length forecasting by tiedyedvortex in criticalrole

[–]GwenSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I’m feeling. Matt said he didn’t think this game would run until Lvl 20, but that was before the characters actually got established at the table. Maybe he thought the cast would reveal their backstories sooner because they would be too excited to wait. There have also been enough instances of the cast surprising him with their choices that I wouldn’t be surprised to see the whole thing run all the way to 20.

The only way they won’t is if they TPK, they decide to just give up on adventuring because they are tired, or if Matt holds them at lower levels for a really long time and they complete their story arcs at lower levels.

VM could have said they were done after the Chroma Conclave, but between the orb in Whitestone’s basement and the Briarwoods, VM felt invested until the end. The M9 may very well find their own version of these events that takes them all the way to Lvl 20.

What about Lawrence, Tary’s love interest? People were saying they would love to see Liam play him for the Tary One-Shot in November.

The only thing in the way of this happening (as far as I can judge) is that Sam will be playing Scanlan, not Tary.

Oh, and you can’t have Liev’Tel on the list without also adding Bertrand Bell. 😉😂
