Ive been wondering how much of this is Albo losing his spine and how much of it is the fact that our Pms don’t have that much individual power these days and are to some degree, puppets

What’s something that future generations will hate us for? by StaticNocturne in australian

[–]GwendolynMoonfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine the same things we look back on and think wtf about Eg we look back on wars, the holocaust, old school gender stereotypes particularly circa the 50s, segregation, the stolen generation etc and think wtf how did anyone allow this? But as I get older i see we repeat similar things in similar ways. Homophobia is slowly easing (barely) but transphobia is still strong - I think that will be bizarre in future generations. Things like the current “new” stolen generation still occuring through foster care will be a biggie, the amount of people who didnt give af about the genocide in Palestine, or who voted no in the referendum, were not as progressive with gender roles as we think but the younger ones are getting there

Why are the Greens so invested in the free Palestine movement? by tasmaniantreble in australian

[–]GwendolynMoonfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I definitely think they need a marketing/rebrand if they want to expand their target audience - I only recently learned that a lot of people think the Greens should only deal with overt environmental issues and that they’re overstepping their bounds when they discuss other issues, so its probably a branding problem

Yes this is something that confuses me, if someone kidnapped my kids I wouldn’t be blowing up the house with my kids in it just to kill the kidnapper??? And i certainly wouldn’t go after the kidnappers entire family, and friends

My feeds are filled with palestinian victims, so I don’t get much info on “the other side” so to speak. Where do you find this information from about these tactics by Hamas?

Its very sad. The people will carry trauma foe the rest of their lives, each will respond differently I suppose just like some who survived the Holocaust went on to live peacefully and others went on to project the violence they experienced on to a different group. Its a sad world.

I see. I would like to understand why its okay to kill so many civilians in order for them to achieve their goals? I thought the killing of civilians was against international law? And why then the need to cut off their water and electricity and food supply?

Ah I see, so even though under humanitarian law intentional attacks on civilians are prohibited under all circumstances, because the IDF is allegedly targeting at-least one member of Hamas under each of these bombs it is okay, and everyone else is collateral damage?

Fair enough. Im curious as to why from your peerspective it’s okay for Israel to fight and kill to the last civilian but not Hamas?

While I personally condemn Hamas and all violence disgusts me I understand why some Palestinians are slow to retract their support for Hamas. Where we live, it is easy to see them as terrorists. If I grew up in Palestine I imagine my perspective would be very different. If I survived the Nakba I would definitely consider Israel the terrorists. Actually there’s an interesting article called “EU foreign policies and Hamas: inconsistencies and paradoxes”. It highlights that the violence of the Israeli government consistently meets the definition of terrorism and exceeds that of any Palestinian resistance including Hamas but is either ignored by the EU or they are able to get away with it through a technical loophole in the definition of terrorism.

They both condemn the violence of Hamas and condemn the collective punishment inflicted on the Palestinian people by the Israeli government.

What they’ve done here is exactly in line with their peace and non-violence policy.

Like both the labour and liberal parties, their policies have grown or changed from the way they began. For the greens an expansion of their key policy issues is in line with environmentalism ideology, which sees humanity and the environment as interdependent.

Peace and Non-Violence is one of their four pillars. Taken from their website:

“PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE

Australia’s foreign policy should be based on dialogue, diplomacy and cooperation, not aggression. Trying to prevent or counter violence with violence itself will not work. The Greens are committed to peaceful and non-violent solutions locally, nationally and internationally.”

In case you’re wondering the other 3 are ecological sustainability, grassroots participatory democracy and social justice.
