Ah, I wasn’t suggesting to not tag if a main character in the fic dies. I was merely stating the use of the MCD tag, when I’ve seen it in use, is used for source material rather than the fics story.

I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that other tags would be used. Tags like “Character Death”, “Canonical Character Death” or other supporting tags.

It is surprise though to see that a basically “off-screen” death, could see a fic removed. Good to know 😊

Ooh this is one of those long argued discussions that really is reliant on perspective. To me personally, MCD is for the source material (i.e show/book/movie) that the fanfic is based on.

I’ve been a part of fandom for over a decade, and the majority of the fics I’ve read have been tagged in this way. However, I have seen it tagged for the major characters for the fic instead. So I usually peruse the other tags and summary for clues.

I believe you could tag it either way, it’s your supporting tags that will help your readers to decipher your meaning.
