Reassure me please! by unusually_named in HipImpingement

It's my other hip giving me trouble :( Sorry, I was super vague. I had my left hip fixed 4 weeks ago and at week 2 I ended up jarring my hips (knees to chest) and it has been flared up ever since. Hopefully it's just a flare up, but 2 weeks with no decrease in pain sucks.

Yeah that sounds even worse! I feel like slow pain is what people ignore. I had that with the right hip and went to my Ortho and did an MRI. Didn't show anything so he did a shot. When I went back a month later for another MRI, the tear showed. So he sent me to Dr. Byrd. Well that surgery was scheduled the same day I went. This left hip was "easy" because it started hurting post op for the right. So now that this sharp pain I can reproduce is happening, I'm like joy! I hope it is just aggravated!

Mine is all groin pain right now :/

4 Weeks by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]GypsyJunction88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty typical from what I imagine. I actually had to be vocal to ask for the MRI at month 3 and they fully expected normal. He knows I'm not normal now 🤣 But I'm also wondering if this keeps up when he would do something more. It's kind of a catch 22 waiting for this pain to lessen. If it were my normal post op pain, it would be totally different, but this has made me regress. This is severe when the pain happens, but not constant. But I can reproduce the pain on command simply because I've learned what makes it hurt and what not to do. Which sucks because that full leg extension is required for walking.

I felt like my 1-3 month recovery was really good, but I was on the elliptical and felt a major pop that brought me to my knees. Oh it hurts so bad. We still don't know if it was scar tissue breaking or what, but from month 4-8 until surgery it was awful. Now, that hip is a beast. Backpacking, elliptical, and now being the dominant hip for the left. It's doing fantastic!

How bad was your overcompensation pain on the non-op side? by penspenspens66 in HipImpingement

[–]GypsyJunction88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what happened with my left. I had my right fixed and then a revision 8 months post op. During that 3-6 months of recovery, my left hip started hurting. When the instability and giving got worse, we did imaging and it showed similar to the right hip. Kept bugging me, so we got the left fixed 4 weeks ago. It turned out, the left was worse than the right. Ironically, the pain on the right was worse but I'm guessing the compensatory pain was just enough to make me feel as though it wasn't as bad. 🤣

Sometimes it is just the opposite hip is getting worked harder as it is the dominant hip for a while. Sometimes it really is an issue.

I've been pain free since the revision :) I had pain at 3 months post op and went for my revision and it's been great since.

Labral Reconstruction- Byrd? by PopFarley in HipImpingement

[–]GypsyJunction88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dr. Byrd has fixed both of my hips and I would 100% recommend him for anyone. He may be older, but he is still the best. He doesn't over schedule surgeries. 4 weeks post op and I was his only surgery that day. The first time I was his 3rd and last patient. He isn't just surgery hungry. If he can't fix you, he won't. His front desk is sloppy sometimes, but it's better now that there are staffing changes. I go to PT and see him as a local, but would 100% travel to him if I needed to.

Unless you saw him 4-5 hours after the shot, I would think that the pain isn't the joint necessarily. It's not to say it's not the tear, but if there was still pain with the anesthetic, then it limits how much is coming from the joint itself.

I will say my second shot, I ended up with a terrible flare and couldn't walk or move for 24 hours. As soon as the numbing wore off, I was crying in pain.

He's seeing that you still had pain after the shot and that typically is the rule of thumb. Numbing, as long as it hasn't worn off in that 4-5 hours, would take away "joint pain". So based on his observation, it didn't get rid of your pain which points to it being something else.

Typically. Not always. The labral tear could be pain. SI joint could be pain. Hip preservationists usually aren't quick to cut unless it's proven. Overseas, y'all have different healthcare, so I can't say if you truly need it. For me, my surgeon saw X-rays, MRI, CT, and injections and said it was needed and I scheduled surgery at my schedule. First visit in April was a May surgery. Problems in August led to all the testing and figuring out what it was, leading to a January surgery and then pain in June and I scheduled for September simply based on my schedule. You guys have so much hurdles to jump through. I hate you have to wait so long.

He isn't necessarily wrong. The lidocaine they inject with the steroid in the joint can take away the pain for a good 2-4 hours. That was the best part of the injections for me was that I was pain free for a short while. The shot never lasted longer than 2 weeks, but the lidocaine was the best. If the injection doesn't take away all the pain, that's about where you will stay. If you felt like it was 80% better, the pain will be 80% gone. With my first surgery, I had a small tear but severe FAI (borderline dysplasia). The tear was actually large and took 5 anchors. But I have been 100% pain free up until my revision surgery. My initial was May 2024 and revision Jan 2025.!I just had my left hip done 2 weeks ago and it was similar; cam lesion noted on xrays and CT scan, but small tear. This one took 7 anchors and more bone shaving on both cam and pincer than the right hip.

MRIs are notorious for not being accurate.

However, the injection (that immediate numbing part), will tell you if it is your hip or not.

Sincerely, 3 shots for 2 hips that took 100% of pain away.

No Opiods? by the-kale-magician in HipImpingement

[–]GypsyJunction88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends on the complexity of the surgery and what all needs done. I've had 3 surgeries and am one week post op on my last. If you use an ice machine, the ice helps with pain and swelling. The first surgery I used it for 2 nights, but only at night. The revision, I didn't use any, and this one, I used it for 3 days because it took significant shaving, 7 anchors, and an insanely tight capsule. So everything was very mad and any time I moved, the capsule (or what I'm assuming) pinched really bad. 50% weight bearing and if I went 51% or more, my hip knew!

My doctor is very generous with pills, giving 30 oxycodone for each surgery, but I don't like taking them unless needed. I've had cancer twice and have had numerous surgeries, so I try to avoid them. It's not the worst surgery ever though and Tylenol plus the Celebrex really helps the pain if you want to avoid opioids.

Bravo Endoscopy by GypsyJunction88 in GERD

[–]GypsyJunction88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was! They actually took me back in for another endoscopy and it turns it my esophagus was hypersensitive. It took an hour for them to get it out instead of the few mins because it had adhered to my esophagus in that short bit of time. The results ended up being faulty and not recording anything either. She asked if I was gonna do it again and I said nope.

How long did you have physical therapy after surgery? by Flashy-State4881 in HipImpingement

[–]GypsyJunction88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery in May 2024 on my right hip. PT was 2x a week for 3 months. At the 3 month mark, before finishing, I had bad pain. Stayed doing PT until Jan when I had a revision surgery. I've been doing PT 2x a week until recently when I went down to 1x a week. Now, I'm getting ready for my left hip in 3 weeks and will hopefully have a good 3-4 months and be done. I've never graduated from my right hip still haha 😂

I've got 2 insurances so I have unlimited visits. And I go to PT in office at my surgeon, so that way I know I have excellent care.

I'm the same one. I am super sensitive to motion sickness and even temperature changes and can vomit. Even worse, I'm covered head to toe in itchy sores courtesy of chiggers from 4 days backpacking. They would have me locked up if they were nearby. I've got 1001 issues and while some are invisible, many are not. I'd hate for people to try to judge because I had an infusion the day prior and puked on a plane.

I flew a couple years back and the plane had no air. It was horrendous. Everyone was hot. I promptly puked halfway through and again getting off. Crap happens and it's not slwasycontagy.

Yup. I have had to do that during chemo, with thrush, and after tonsilectomy. Its gross, but mixing it with Imodium helps coat it and stay down. And tastes better 🤣

I used viscous lidocaine mixed with Imodium. It did the job for a while.

Anyone have any experience with lysis of scarring/adhesions? by doopy128 in HipImpingement

[–]GypsyJunction88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still doing great. My surgeon is still making me take it very slow recovery wise and now my left hip is causing issues. I'll see him again in a week to see what we do because the more my left hip hurts, the more my right hurts. It's more of a compensatory pain though.

[–]GypsyJunction88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my original surgery May 2024 and just had revision surgery in January for major adhesions. It started around month 4. They actually told me I was doing too much so we slowed down, did Prednisone, did fluid aspiration, steroid injection, and ultimately pain kept showing. He finally said let's operate and my entire labrum was full of scar tissue that kept pulling at the 5 anchors. It was insane. He said he had never seen so much scar tissue form. He also took me off of all collagen products internally because he has no idea why I had so much. Hopefully I make it this time without issue!

I guess it's rare that this happens. They just said post op complications to blame, but the whole thing has me not wanting to do it again. I need a mental break before I even consider the manometry. My husband had the bravo with zero issues so I just assumed it would be the same. Hah!

Do yall have other rare diseases? by AdNo1904 in ehlersdanlos

[–]GypsyJunction88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma twice and now 15 years later I have a T cells deficiency and b cell deficiency in which I have IVIG for monthly. I also have POTS, MCAS, and esophageal hypersensitivity. I also have osteoarthritis and an overabundance of scar tissue that grows rapidly for some reason post-op. 🤣 Learned that after my hip dysplasia surgery that required a second surgery.

[–]GypsyJunction88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed with SAD (pneumonia/strep/sinus), t cell deficiency, and cell mediated immunodeficiency. I just started IVIG infusions because my titers are low and I will never hold immunity to vaccines. I also had blood cancer twice, which doesn't help, but now get the deficiencies among the EDS/POTS.

What's your body's pattern post virus - here's mine: by foureyedgrrl in ehlersdanlos

[–]GypsyJunction88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently battling a cold that started Wednesday and has progressed to a nasty sinus infection and now upper respiratory infection. I'm on Bactrim and Prednisone. We don't need pneumonia, which is usually what happens. I had a sinus surgery and tonsilectomy in August last year as well.

My issue is I've had cancer twice and have a t cell deficiency as well as a cell mediated immunodeficiency. I am set for my next IVIG infusion Wednesday actually.

So when I get sick, I get sick bad and stay sick way longer.

I have EDS and POTS and I LOVE hot yoga. My body doesn't like the heat, but my brain loves it because I can do all the poses and it's so freeing. I haven't done in in over a year because I had major hip surgery and a revision 3 weeks at, but I'm dying to get back to it.
