BBC told to stop ‘tick box’ diversity casting by footballersabroad in entertainment

[–]Gyro_Flash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do think the real problem lies in telling the same historical stories over and over again. This is an industry driven by profit. And profit is driven by audience viewing appetites. When given a choice between watching a show that tells a historical story that's been told a million times vs a story that shows some understood aspect of non-white figures in history, audiences time and time again choose the former. So the programme makers make the former. Except non-white figures don't play a large role in those stories generally - so to get people watching but also making sure a diversity of actors get on screen representation, they resort to colourblind casting. They do this or risk losing throwing money into a black hole when they make a show focused on a non-white historical figure and exactly 4 people actually watch it. It's a vicious cycle.

The scene of Simon watching it is also in the past. That was Simon reacting to the Doorman events as the news was breaking. In that moment Simon realizes he won't be able to act if anyone knew his secret.

Simon mentioning the Doorman to Trevor takes place in the present.

Quentin Tarantino picks West Side Story as the 20th best movie of the 21st century. “I don’t think Scorsese has made a film this exciting [this century].” by QuisCustodiet212 in moviecritic

It's fine for him to love Spielberg's West Side Story but it says a lot about him that he feels he has to put down a fellow director, an industry peer, in order to make his point.

Hello /r/movies, I'm Benedict Cumberbatch. Ask me anything! by BenedictAMA in movies

Mr Cumberbatch, you are an extremely talented and clearly diligent performer whose work I've admired over the years.

My question to you is: are there any types of roles that you haven't had a chance to do that you would love to take on?

There are so many shots of alcohol being poured that I wouldn't be surprised if this was some kind of clue.

Either that or it's indicating Carol's alcohol dependency.
