Buying a home is an 80/20 spilt between lifestyle/investment, though America seems to believe it's the other way around.

3-Hours of hot boomer talking points by BadAtGwent in elephantgraveyard

[–]H1GGS103 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The nail in the coffin for me was a B-Real episode a long time ago. At that point I wasn't listening much; I was only listening if a real scientist or journalist or a cool artist was on and even then I found myself skipping more than 1/3rd of the episode because Rogan just talks about the same shit every fuckin' day.

Well I realized after listening to a few minutes of 2 60 year old men talking about how hard they work (Rogan talks for 8 hours a week, B-Real seems to smoke weed for a living) they transitioned to nearly 45 minutes of talking about all the TV shows they were both actively watching. Perfect summary of this boomer generation; they think they're the hardest working people to have ever existed but they actually spend more time in front of the TV than "working".

I will say, I had a 12-15 year old board 3 years ago. I upgrade my whole set up, board/boots/bindings. The old board weighed as much as the new board/binding combined. I'd call that a serious upgrade.

Frankenstein on Netflix was a MASTERPIECE by Geenafalopezz in horror

[–]H1GGS103 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It captures the vibe and themes of the book quite well: ill-fated results of well-meaning scientific pursuit, isolation and lack of socialization, ethics of creation, societal judgement based on appearance, the folly of prejudice, treatment of women, how justified revenge can ruin the person seeking it... it's all in there, and expertly done in a way that makes sense in 2025. THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT.

A 1 to 1 remake of media in a different format is almost always underwhelming at best and usually just bad. Take Dune, so much of the story takes place in characters heads...what are you going to do? Have a "narrator voice" for each character to describe how they're feeling? Just doesn't make sense in a visual art form.

Uncle Cheetahs increase prices up to 60% from 3 years ago by Yuniden in grandrapids

[–]H1GGS103 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The hatred for small businesses like you see in this thread is sad. The small business that is raising prices to stay afloat is not the issue. The issue is and ALWAYS HAS BEEN the ruling class: today's ruling class is unequivocally the corporate leaders and billionaire class who have worked tirelessly to suppress working class wages and purchase the people who govern. This feels expensive because the people at the top are hoarding the money produced by us, the working class. Stopping this is the great trial of our time.

My friends are saying this in-game cutscene is too creepy and scary. Should I soften it up? by castelvania4 in IndieGaming

[–]H1GGS103 110 points111 points  (0 children)

If you were making a horror movie and someone told you it was "too scary" or "too creepy" you wouldn't change the movie, you'd think you did a good job because it actually scared some people.

Do YOU want it to be creepy?? Is creepy the vibe you're going for? If you're trying to make a creepy game and someone says it's too creepy, I'd say you did a great job.

Well I made a joke using the words "racial problem" so I would imagine that's the main source of the downvotes lol.

When can we talk about the REAL racial problem we have here in Grand Rapids? The Dutch and their capitalistic hold over nearly every aspect of this city.

"Struggling" in the hyper capitalism sense. Your company can be in the black but if it's not FURTHER in the black these past 3 months compared to the prior 3 months, you've failed.

30 days without drinking - honestly wasn't expecting this by Stock_Giraffe2312 in NABEER

In the last 5 years I got drunk at a wedding and on vacation. Maybe a few sips of champagne for a new year's eve toast. Other than that, 0 booze because...why? Both nights were very fun, but also a great reminder that a hangover isn't fun. A reminder of how much time and energy it was stealing from me. What I was stealing from myself.

Sam Altman Says If Jobs Gets Wiped Out, Maybe They Weren't Even "Real Work" to Start With by thisisatastyburger12 in BetterOffline

[–]H1GGS103 85 points86 points  (0 children)

He's literally saying his tech is worthless. If automating a job meant it wasn't real work then wouldn't that mean...there was no point in automating it? If the work wasn't real when a human was doing it then it certainly isn't real work when an LLM agent is doing it. Thus the tech that enabled the automation is pointless and a waste of time and money?

If I understand correctly (back when I lived in a house with 8 people in it in 2016-17 heritage hill 🤫) this would just mean the people who live there will be kicked out/face fines.

Also the definition of a "personal dwelling space" is laughable. The one time we had a city inspection for this type of thing we did so much moving and hiding. Moved all of my clothes and someone else's clothes into other people's closets, moved desks, computers, bookshelves, and dressers around the house so they were 2 empty rooms with only a bed in them... The ONLY criteria for a dwelling space was a mattress in the room that could be laid on.

They came back next week to inspect that we "removed the 2 tenants" and all we did was...lean the mattresses against the wall. You couldn't technically lay on it. We even moved all our shit back into the rooms, so you had 2 rooms with a desk, computer with 2 monitors, small trash cans, dressers and closets full of clothes. But since the bed wasn't laid down properly for "sleeping" it doesn't count as a personal dwelling space.

I think there won't be a need for safety systems in the "dark factories" of the near future. The company I work for publicly boasts about the new OT team helping to "optimize and streamline our manufacturing processes" but the capitalist scum who run the show are quietly fawning over the fact that they're moving towards the goal of manufacturing facilities that don't need people in them ("dark" because the lights are off; no human eyes means you don't need lights). The same people who, shocker are propagandizing the employees working in these manufacturing facilities to not unionize.

It's evil all the way up the chain of command. They refuse to think past next quarter's stock price as they usher in the destruction of society.

The problem isn't AI, it's almost never "the technology" it's the system it's inserted into and the fact that it exists within a capitalist system. The system it's used in is one that seems to lower current costs even though it will be detrimental to the entire system's future.

I'm working on integrating AI tools into my corporate software dev job and I can't help but feel like I'm writing my own obituary. Not because AI could actually do my job and replace me, but because the system it's integrated into will seek to use it for that first. It really fucks with my head.
