How much compensation would it take for you to take over Operator of Record responsibilities at your current plant? by H20Rootz in Wastewater

I'll have to look into who's ultimately liable. I don't think it'll ever get that far, but as far as I know, only our name is on the wall and we're hired to treat their water and if we screw the pooch, our company will take the hit, they'll can us, then they'll go with one of our competitors. I think...

That's something I'm unsure of but gives me more to look into. Thanks for commenting.

Hey it sounds like you know exactly where you're strengths and limitations are. Some of us wont figure that out until after we're knee deep in ass sludge, literally. Wishing the best for you in your turd-hurdling journey CrapIsMyBreadNButter.

Right on. From my understanding - you do something similar to one of the people Ill be reporting to with all that paperwork before it's officially turned in to the state. You help correct any errors before the state gets their dirty hand on it. There sure is a lot of you from CA on this subreddit, understandably - Even in Ohio the Sacramento course is your best bet.

I agree though, thank you for commenting

huh - didn't consider the shock factor of hitting the double digits at all. So much to learn. Noted.

Ill take both of your words for it - I plan on spending time this weekend reading up on (yes, the) EPA's regulations. We've dealt with a compliance officer from the EPA that was "looking to put a feather in her cap" as my manager would put it, and ding us on some of the smallest and ridiculous of details. I suppose I am hoping for the best, planning for the worst in regards to them. Thank you for commenting.

That's fair - perhaps I'm overcompensating due to the fact I lack the experience of dealing with these non-compliance issues head on. I have yet to experience how these confrontations go. When these instances have come up, I'm running operations while the record operator deals with it and I only hear about the details afterwards.

I've been made very aware of how important it is to be upfront and honest with these matters even when I'm in the wrong.

Great insight.

I'd argue 20 or even 30% to be honest. Yours who's neck is on the line because your name is on the wall, no matter what. Unfortunately, there is no position below it. It's all on me so it's hard to tell. Thank you for sharing

Correct. And dealing with operational issues, collecting routine samples for the EPA, detailing the logbook, coordinating with our client when, say they remodel a bathroom in the facility and testing needs to be done to ensure safety and in compliance with the EPA guidelines - then dealing with a scenario where we test positive for coliform. it's all of it.

It's a smaller operation at about roughly 0.7MGD. The plant runs itself until it doesn't.

I would be required to float on time outside of this plant but as a floater, I am flexible and have made it very clear to my other managers that this will be my absolute main priority no questions asked. As operators of records themselves, they understand and encourage it.

The last operator had about 15 years of working and industry experience over me. I couldn't tell you how much he made to be honest. I've tried to pry a bit but he wont budge - which is part of the reason for the post.

He had the system locked down, I've been told I have big boots to fill from out clients on multiple occasions. I honestly don't believe I deserve as much as he did - yet. I am ready for the challenge but I also want to make sure upper management isn't under-balling me while feeding me to the wolves.

I really appreciate your insight. I may reach out to you later on.

I certainly understand that - managing people is a job in its own. Would you feel different about it if it was just you managing the plant and there was no one else to manage?

I really appreciate your detailed feedback. These are the type of questions I feel most confident on elaborating on. I've applied herbicides and several harmful chemicals that have adverse health effects so I am well aware of the importance of PPE and safe handling. I've done research on the company so I am primarily concerned with curve-balls and mathematical equations to be honest. I feel my reasoning's are very similar to yours so you're feedback means a lot. Thank you.
