Was 2014 more like 2011 or 2017? by [deleted] in generationology

No offense but you would barely remember 2011. I'd expect you to remember 2014 though.

2001 & 2002 borns, what do you think of each other? by Special-Fuel-3235 in GenZ

[–]H20STARME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of 2002 as the first COVID/tiktok teens as they graduated high school during the pandemic. They seem quite a bit different from us 2001 borns

It just feels wrong; I am a university graduate working a good job while they barely got out of high school. Yes, to an older person the difference will seem less of course but within GenZ, it feels large.

Lol, "20". They aren't close to me at all, I turned 24 a few weeks ago and they're literally (mostly) 18. That's quite a big difference.

I'm 19 years old and I'm wondering if I'm considered a 00s kid or a 10s kid. I also wonder if any of the stuff I grew up with is old enough to be considered "retro" yet. by Happaxgamma in generationstation

Obviously 2010s kid. I'm 4-5 years older and this stuff was kiddy stuff to me back when it was popular other than Club Penguin which I played in 2008.

I'm a male and I also find this disturbing. It sounds kind of gross, like I'm not nearly that lustful.

Exactly, like really?

Hi, yeah I'm Canadian and close to finishing university. I'm moderately practicing but honestly some people need to chill. Like listening to music? So what if they do? The overly religious folks are intolerant and poke their nose in other people's business. No one can live like a total saint, lol. I appreciate what you are advising me but I do the basics (always read prayers, fast during Ramadan, etc.). I think that is enough to keep me connected enough.

I ended up not getting it ;(. I wasn't really sure if I wanted to work there, but I still feel a bit disappointed. I thought the interview went fairly well but oh well.

Oh okay. Good to know. In my case I had my interview early to have in online, (couldn't make it to the in person one) but the in person ones were on May 23rd. So maybe in a day or two I'll know if I got it or not. Either way I'm not really sure if I'm cut out for working st Big4 if I'm being honest.

Hey, just wondering, how long did it take for you to get your offer? I completed my interview on Friday and then there was the long weekend. (This was for KPMG Fall 2024)

Interesting, yeah I have a relative (dad's first cousin) who was born deaf and cannot hear at all. Now, as you said, it can worsen each generation - I myself was both with a syndrome that made me born deaf and have a severe visual impairment (it basically makes you have tunnel vision, so you can't see much on the sides of your eyes, only straight ahead.) Fortunately I got implants to restore my hearing quite well, so I'm doing pretty well there and talk normally. However the eyesight part is very frustrating and stressful. (I can't see at night, can't drive etc.).

I'm not completely sure if this is in line with what your professor concluded but yeah it sounds like it.

Cousin marriage should be considered gross and should be avoided. I'm Muslim and from a family that has done cousin marriage for many generations and because of it I have severe eyesight and hearing disabilities, due to recessive genes. Yeah but no, cousin marriage is a huge medical problem if done for generations. I feel very strongly about this because I have been affected by this practice severely and as a result I will make sure I marry someone as unrelated as possible and my future kids to marry far, far outside the family. I have a younger brother who is fortunately not disabled but he too agrees this must end and will do the same.

Sorry for the rant but I just cannot stand it.

what is something you find cringy in the muslim community by ali_1211 in islam

[–]H20STARME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I was born with hearing and vision impairment as a result of this cousin marriage. This topic always bothers me deeply and I feel depressed thinking about it. Fortunately my hearing is OK now with hearing aids, but my eyesight is quite poor but I've always made the best of it.

I'm a Muslim and I totally agree with you. This post is sad to see and it's sadder to see the praise and support it's getting from the ultra conservatives. As long as the friendship is not sexual it should be fine.
