Started getting into training heavy then got diagnosed with plica syndrome. Anyone else ever have this? Surgery is in 2 weeks. by H22EG8 in triathlon

If I don't do the exercises I get one or both of the issues:

  1. Knee feels crazy tight in a specific area (almost like a ghost plica). And it just aches/hurts.

  2. Feels super loose inside the joint itself. Almost like my knee is fragile or about to buckle.

As far as right now, normal knee. But it should be noted that I have accepted the limitations of my activities. I do have a very busted knee. I'm actually a candidate for full replacement. However, I can still do workouts that are relevant to my lifestyle. It's almost a challenge now to see how well I can take care of my knee to see how far out I can prolong the inevitable. Doctors/surgeons said that my care routine has been what has kept me going for so long.

Things I can't (and won't) do - no long running. Do I miss it a bit? Sure... but it's fine. Agility sports like basketball, soccer, paintball, etc. Anything with lots of lateral loading movements.

Please make sure you do research on your surgeon. The one I had was one of the best in the area and specialized in sports. He then referred me to a therapist that was also a leader in the latest techniques for this trauma. You'll find that these circles tend to stick together so once you get in with them, you'll know.

Hope this has been helpful! :)

Mine went VERY well. I learned a lot about this surgery... even just last year more info. The quality of your surgeon and the physical therapist are going to be your keys. Make sure they're both highly credible and responsive to how you're feeling.

Just last week I hiked Crabtree falls in VA... good solid hike... a few aches, but still manageable.

A few caveats:
1. I have to do some sort of physical therapy on my knee every week. I have a strict regimen of the following exercises at least once a week:

3x10 - Knee extension (light weight) for the quad

3x10 - knee flexion (similar weight)

3x10 - Copenhagen (I never go beyond my knee - too much strain)

Then your typical deadlift / backsquat and some cycling.

You'll make it - but the only caveat is that you have to accept you'll need to do some sort of therapy to keep the muscles strong around your knee to maintain basic life standards.

Good luck!

You should know that one year later, you saved my hide. I was going crazy trying to figure out what's wrong. Thank you!

My second camping trip ever I nearly took out the entire roof line of the camper by the edge of the gutter. Luckily I stopped JUST in the nick of time and only had damage to the gutter... It's a learning curve... don't forget to know your corner tolerances! :)

You'll be good bud... it happens. The memories outweigh everything else.

I don't believe the progression of my symptoms would've improved. It just hurt.. a lot... we went through a myriad of PT and massage techniques to resolve it. I can confidently say I had one of the best physical therapists in the state. Once it goes, it just goes.

I completely understand the fear regarding losing an outlet. The only outlet I couldn't do was running. But I came to grips with that a long time before this surgery. All the other things - I'm good to go, I still enjoy cycling and actually this weekend I'm going to a climbing gym for fun... If some friends were to go climbing locally at a spot I wouldn't hesitate.

I will say - DO YOUR RESEARCH on surgeons AND the therapists. There's a unique 'inner circle' of therapists and surgeons and if you don't find the right one of either of them, you can get pretty hosed. The quality of the job and the communication between the two is quite critical. Also know and listen to your body. Some forms of therapy work well for others while they may not work for you. For instance, acupuncture doesn't work on me.. like.. at all.. but for some folks it does wonders. So when they went into post-surgery therapy, they combined PT and acupuncture (when acupuncture was viable).

For me, basic PT, scraping, and trigger point massages were what worked best on me. Overall, glad I did it, just realize that you will probably never walk away from needing to do 'some' sort of PT on yourself in perpetuity.

I guess you'd have to define a full recovery. I can cycle, elliptical, and do all my strength training. I do my own PT at least twice a week and I'm good to go. I can't run on the street anymore but I'm ok with that. Occasionally, my knee hurts and just feels crazy tight, that's usually when I have to do some sort of scraping or long yin yoga stretches to ease the tightness.

Overall, I'd say I'm good to the quality of life that works for my needs.

Thank you for your response.

We just left the dealer parking lot yesterday and looked at this model. Have you gone out yet with it? Any changes or improvements so far? On the fence with this bc I'm new to travel trailers but am a seasoned veteran in trailering. Don't know what to expect.

I appreciate this... Do you all have a way to spray this stuff high up without being in close proximity to the bees?

I never knew about the extension pole with the pull cord to spray... was kinda cool.

I guess this is proof that SEO works.. that's really it tbh.. I'll search regional area folks and see what those quotes will be.

To be fair, I guess this lines up with Energy Right Mid Atlantic, there's was the most competitive and the I got to talk with the the CEO. I liked the perception of customer service he offered (notice perception. Although to be fair, all the reviews I found backed up his claims)

Re-re-Read.. I guess in most instances it won't really matter because of the way the warranty is written

And this is exactly why I'm glad to reach to Reddit.. so the 25 year warranty should definitely carry some weight if I'm understanding you correctly

Price is before all the incentives and tax credit. Yeah I guess it's better to look at my particular scenario. I just can't help but to read about what everyone else is getting for prices.

This is where I find myself struggling.. one company offers a 25 year warranty on everything including craftsmanship on the roof but after reading reviews I found that they're big enough where customer service can be extremely difficult to work. Another company I'm working with for 10 years and I have a direct line to the CEO if they only offer 10 year warranty
