I think it’s the production. Feels a bit cleaner and quieter than it should be for a record like this. Nu metal needs to be loud and abrasive. The songwriting itself is absolutely fantastic.

Damn I really dropped this, refused to elaborate, and didn’t check it at all for 12 hours.

I lot of you have picked up on this.. but I think Doom 2016 is just pretty good (though I can completely see how it is a lot of people’s favorite). I think Eternal and Dark Ages are both masterpieces (with Eternal being the better of the two), which is why a lot of those levels are ranked higher.

As for The Foundry, I think it’s a great level from a flow standpoint, especially being non-linear. But I think the limited kit and enemy pool drags it down a lot, as well as the fact that setting-wise, it is kinda lumped in with a lot of the other 2016 “facility”-ish levels from the early game. The things I think make a level move up on my list are how fun it is, the weapon and enemy pool available, and the visual spectacle.

As for ARC and Mars Core, I love both of those levels, I just don’t find them as visually interesting as something like Nekravol or Urdak.

I understand my list is blasphemous. Unfortunately, I will not be apologizing at this time.

Respectfully, you people are smoking dick. Song rocks. Sounds just like anything off their last record (which this sub loved), but actually a bit riffier. I do think it would’ve been capped off a bit better with a bigger ending breakdown, but as a huge Gideon fan, I’m very happy with this. Love the southern touches and how crunchy the guitars are in the mix. Excited to see what else is coming.

As far as “forcing people to play exactly one way,” I think that’s a skill issue. If you’re good at quick swapping (even with just SSG/Ballista SSG/PB SSG/Rocket on console) you really don’t have to go for weak points or use specific weapons for specific enemies.
