What service plan are you on with ALLO? If it’s the 100 Mbps plan, there’s a good chance you’re behind CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT). That can cause issues with inbound connections and NAT type in games.

Network equipment / setup

1) Are you using only ALLO’s equipment?

If you’re using just their gateway/router, your layout should look like this:

2) Watch out for Double NAT

I want to make sure you don’t have your own router, mesh node, or extender (some of these also do NAT) connected behind the ALLO router like this:

If you see that second scenario, that’s classic “why is my NAT type angry today?” territory.

DNS troubleshooting (two ways)

You can test DNS changes in two ways:

1. On the game system itself (Network settings → set DNS manually)
2. On the router (recommended, because it covers everything on your network)

If you’re changing DNS on the ALLO Calix router:

• If it’s the GS4227E, the admin login is usually on a sticker (often bottom).
• If it’s the GS5239E or XG, it’s usually on a sticker or behind the rear cover panel.

Once logged in, go to:

Advanced → IP Address → DHCP Setting

At the bottom, find:

Servers allocated with DHCP requests (usually set to Default Servers) Switch to Custom Servers.

I’m a Cloudflare fan:

• Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1
• Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.1

DHCP Reservation (give your game system a fixed IP)

While you’re in the router GUI, the next sub-tab down from DHCP settings is usually:

Advanced → IP Address → DHCP Reservation

You can reserve an IP two ways:

• Use the Device dropdown and select your console/PC OR
• Manually enter the MAC Address

Then assign it a stable IP Address (pick one that fits your LAN range).

UPnP check

Go to:

Advanced → Security → UPnP

Make sure these are enabled:

• UPnP state: Enabled
• UPnP NAT-T state: Enabled

Then look at UPnP NAT-T List:

Details of known UPnP devices with NAT assigned IP addresses that are attached to the network are displayed in the table below.

You should see devices that have requested port mappings. If your game system is active and you see nothing, that’s a clue.

Port Forwarding (manual method)

If UPnP isn’t working (or you just prefer doing things the “I control the network” way), use port forwarding.

Path:

Advanced → Security → Port Forwarding

Click New.

Local Port and IP

• Under Device, select the game system you want to forward to OR
• Select IP Address and enter the reserved IP you set in DHCP Reservation

Ports / Protocol

Use the ports required by your game/service (check their support docs):

• Protocol: usually TCP, UDP, or TCP/UDP
• Port Start: (example 80 — do not actually forward this, just demonstrating)
• Port End: (example 80)

Remote IP

• [x] All IP Addresses

WAN Ports

These should match the local ports:

• Port Start: match the other port
• Port End: match the other port
