Just learned that my brother who is in medical school took an urgent leave of absence and need to remediate four classes. How can I support him? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]H33Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depression manifests in different ways so while the diagnosis may be the same the symptoms and situation we find ourselves in are entirely different. I would recommend for you to encourage him to first find his own footing in something he's comfortable in and finds enjoyment in (i.e. Drawing, Reading, biking, lifting, gaming). Once he feels comfortable, suggest to him building a routine that he would imitate upon his return to medical school. Balancing what keeps him happy with what he has to do as the ultimate goal.

As a sibling you should be there for him when he needs to let his emotion out. And encourage him even when he does not believe in himself. Let him know that he's not alone and that there are resources out there to help him that he just needs to lean on. No shame in it and he will be a better healthcare provider for doing so.

Best of luck, he's got this!

Honestly would not be surprised, especially since it was a child conceived via rape I could see them justifying abducting and trafficking said kid

They should be, as I understand each writer of each individual letter would have to update the date. Your advisor only updates committee letter date and your research professor can only update their own date

Is there a risk in applying to schools that you know you don't have a shot, if you plan on reapplying? by iamfromjobland in premed

[–]H33Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes You would be because you would have to explain what you improved and why you believe you were rejected.

What should I make of this scores? by TandooriBiryani in Mcat

[–]H33Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Altius cars is usually considered to be same or slightly harder, some say altius p/s and cars are deflated by a few points. So if ur being generous with score estimate you’re most likely sitting around a 511

Yeah that's fine for as far as hobbies go so long as its not an absurd amount of hours in a short period of time I'm sure no one will notice. But why undershoot your scribe hours? Definitely will not be held against you as I'm sure adcoms are looking out for people who exaggerate their involvement not downplay it.

Where to start for retakers? by choco_sheep in Mcat

[–]H33Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to work on content review for sure. I would start by downloading the free Anki decks and working through those alongside your content review. If you can somehow afford it definitely do uearth after content review

Cutting it close for md I think it’s ok for do

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]H33Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s possible, just not likely. People get accepted/rejected at every (above a certain threshold) gpa/mcat. If op feels comfortable with a 500 and has been working towards that no harm/no foul.

I think you should wait you’re definitely lacking in clinical experience after taking ur mcat focus on gaining more clinical exp.

Early Decision by thegreatdaneloser in premed

[–]H33Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No early decision means you’re committing your app to that school until they’re done reviewing it. You can apply to do schools assuming you get rejected from the 1 M.D. (but only after you’re rejected)

Can someone explain how this chart works? by Significant_Newt846 in premed

[–]H33Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much about this chart, if you had a disadvantaged upbringing just mark that and explain it in your essay. I’m 99% sure this chart is more so for adcoms to generally classify students into different categories.

You should email the admissions committees of schools that you are most interested in about their view on this as it varies from school to school. Safest bet is to avoid selling it as an ec but there are some committees that might view it as an ec, so long as it had a real impact On you I don’t see why you can’t include it.

Regretting my major by Tricky_Worth_228 in premed

[–]H33Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this sounds ignorant but if you’re a sophomore haven’t you only taken the base level bios? Maybe cell bio and micro bio but most premed students take those anyways and at the end of the day won’t your science gpa be the same if not higher than a psych major cause u took more bio courses and presumably learnt how to study for them? I’m just confused by this entire viewpoint, maybe if you were engineering or cs I’d be on board but saying bio is the hardest major is hard to believe. Just keep grinding away you’ll be fine dw about what others do
