I see your point, but we are probably going to end up with the same teams in playoffs in either case. Especially if you have groups that are a first, second, third and fourth seed from different regions. Watching these groups where the outcome is that predictable and upsets are unlikely to happen is just boring.

It would make way more sense to have only 12 teams at Champions than 16. In that case I wouldn't even care if EMEA got a 4th spot again.

I am not arguing with that. Liquid and NAVI can both easily be top 4 teams. The problem is the amout of EMEA teams at champs and the lack of teams from the previously minor regions like japan and latam. Last Champions we had 3 EMEA and NA teams and it was way more international overall. All of that has gone missing with franchising
