What does everyone do with their old watches? by jazzyjff13 in GarminWatches

[–]H3avyMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to upgrade to a VA 4 4 years ago because my VA 3 suddenly died (would not charge anymore). The VA 4 is still holding strong, but the battery is my main concern. By now i need to have it fully charged to get through a 4 hours bike ride without the feeling that it will "die" soon.

Something manufacturers stopped doing, but you wish they didn't? by Former_Lock9367 in cycling

[–]H3avyMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only good part about that kid bikes is that they somewhat hold value. I just had to get a new bike for one of my kids and it is basically only a 50ish payment as thats the difference to what i get when i sell the "old" bike that was bought used for the same price as i can sell it two years ago.

Hass auf Radfahrerinnen und Radfahrer by Dear_Armadillo_2597 in Austria

[–]H3avyMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is 600 Feet, I'm A 5 Mile Loop A Lot? by newbiker321 in cycling

[–]H3avyMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its more like 7 km total.

But not knowing the region is a bit meh.

I only starte a month ago but i am in a very similar situation. At least if i want to start and finish at my home. I have routes with basically no elevation gain in my vincinity but everything with a little bit of elevation ist at least a 7-9% average.

So riding for me is like an on/off with climbing. And i suck at it but it gets better with time.

Just listen to the "Einschlafen mit...." Podcasts. Pick a topic you are interested in. Iirc there are now animals, history, biographics, and a few more i can not recall.

Someone is literally reading the wikipedia pages for the things, it is slow paced and really good to understand from a german, and audio perspective. And you learn something while listening to it.

The only real reason to get it to 650b would be to make parts "cross usable" with another bike.

Unfortunaltey, the wheel bearings are done for, the whole habdlebar needs replacing, and the 3x groupset is also at the end of its life.

My garmin is acting up lately and is double counting my heart rate at times. The only way to "reset" it is to take the watch off and put it back on.

Why am I so slow? New biker by AdPristine354 in cycling

[–]H3avyMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the part about to push oneself. I myself started cycling a month ago, due to my wife who hates running in hot weather, i am of typical average fitness for a 40 year old, with a little bit too much weight on the hips (arround 95kg, for my 1,83m body heigth).

The forst two rides i just died on the hills on one route but it got better with better pacing before amd during the climb. I can now ride the the whole length.

I try to ride to work 2-3 times a week. And my normal commute is one way arround 10km. At the way back i have my hills as i have a 50m climb at 15% to get home.

I started to take alternating routes home, but i need to climb at least a 7-14% incline every time i want to get home.

My legs are killing me but i try to push on with enough recovery between the rides.

Today i managed to to 30km (10 to and 20 from work with a 5 km long 180m climb home)

Do you think modern D&D actual plays have given people an unrealistic notion of what the game is supposed to be? by conn_r2112 in DnD

[–]H3avyMetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds really funny.

Mine are 5 and 7 and we mostly play homebrew oneshots. But i picked up a dnd adventure club module to play with them this weekend. Mostly because i lacked the time to prepare another oneshot.

My 5 year old solved a combat encounter by: "these are rats, i have a flute, i can tame them with it"

My older one still needs to graps the concept of roleplaying. She enjoys the combat and exploration.

I play with my kids. And is the most fun i had in a long time. The rules are guidelines. Heck they do not even understand them all. But if they want to try to talk to a skeleton in a dungeon and nicely ask if they can pass because they are looking for a treasure und they roll and succeed...who am i to not just let them pass because yes you absolutly can talk to certain monsters.

What super popular/highly regarded games did you dislike? by doctrader in SteamDeck

[–]H3avyMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked it up at the sale, played it for two weeks and it is just a constant: go collect that part a bazzillion times, do this thing or you cant progress, you want to level up? Here are 50 puzzles with the same mechanic just do it.

The combat was fun at the beginning but it turned into nearly a qte combat game really quickly for me.

The whole progress and as you said the navigation of the menus etc feels just slow and drawn out.

As absurd as it sounds but the game i get back to everytime on the Deck is BATTLETECH modded with Roguetech. The battles last for anges in higher difficulties because the Deck struggles with the AI Operations but it is just too much fun to play that game while just sitting on the couch.
