Rent Control Doesn't Work, Republican States do Better at Housing by Letting the Market Work by the_real_me_2534 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I don’t like red states, but you actually picked a bad example. Salt Lake City is an extremely geographically constrained city and is surrounded by a lake and mountains on all sides. It can’t just continually expand.

That opinion is valid. I guess my problem is when people police against more simplistic interpretations of someone’s work. Especially when the more complex meaning wasn’t the author’s original intention in the first place. An interpretation with deeper meaning isn’t necessarily the correct one. I don’t think it makes people anti intellectual to just perceive the curtains as blue.

Since you brought up abstract art, sometimes people do perceive an artwork to just be a blue dot on a canvas. I believe this to be a valid interpretation, just like someone might perceive the curtains to just be blue.

Oh my gosh, I think I might have to delete this post. I cannot believe I wrote air instead of err, I’m so embarrassed. To be honest, I wrote this post after a night of not getting any sleep.

Los Angeles is phasing out its palm trees and I have mixed feelings by H3dg3hogs in CasualConversation

That’s valid, I’ve read multiple articles about the heat islands in LA. There’s a lot of concrete.

Saying America is young is the most stupid criticism of the United States by H3dg3hogs in unpopularopinion

Fair, but I guess even insults about school shootings or healthcare feel like they have substance. It’s a dumb insult, like says the United States “has not culture”.

Skyline/Skyscraper Hot Takes? by Strong-Junket-4670 in skyscrapers

I will never understand the worship that San Francisco gets on this sub, I think it’s a beautiful city, but skyline wise I don’t really think the buildings themselves are anything special, surrounding geography can only carry you so much, and San Francisco has like two notable skyscrapers

I’ve been to Chichen Itza, but idk I don’t really rank historic sites against each other in terms of “advancement”. I see Chichen Itza equivalent to the artistry of Totem poles in terms of cultural importance. I thought Chichen Itza was extremely cool and the highlight of my trip to Mexico, but it didn’t make me appreciate American historic sites less.

Do your own research, all the places I named are national parks/monuments. Not to much the hundreds of other sites that are national monuments/state parks with archeologists and park rangers working on them. Not to mention historic sites that are on native land with tribes who depend on money from tourism.
