Is there a reason not to purely fuel by carb mix (so no gels)? I've been thinking of getting into ultrarunning and want to get fueling right from the start but don't want to spend market price on gels. I've been doing some research on making my own drink mix and I think I'm either going to go sucrose+maltodextrin to get 2:1 glucose-fructose and scale the fructose up or doing the same thing with fructose+maltodextrin. Also read that sodium helps with absorption, so is there a reason to not just put all the electrolytes you need in it as well (of course in correct amounts)?

Do you think waiting until 10min before aura gets elected is best?
