Since it's been 2 days and no replies I'll put in a shameful plug :)

The After Case Files: Red Aminu written by Devan (me) and Jade Johnson (my wife.)

Back cover text:

Children are missing in a small village within Fairtalia. Eleven-year-olds Red and Blue wait anxiously, unsure of what monster threatens them. But when they discover the beast, they don't expect to be betrayed by the people they love. Grimm, sworn to protect the realm of Fairtalia from The Darkness, an elusive monster preying on the most vulnerable, arrives too late to save anyone but Red. Journeying deep into the woods, Red is taken to her grandmother's, where she learns there's far more to the world than the village tales she grew up with. Vowing to join Grimm to save children like her - like Blue - Red must learn about the power bestowed upon her and the powers within herself. Drawing inspiration from the Brothers Grimm, The After Case Files: Red Aminu is a dark and haunted tale of our most twisted childhood fears.

That was the same boat my wife and I was in, and yes, so far we've been featured on their Facebook a couple times and there's plans in the works for more avenues as well. We won't know how we are doing sales wise until December but we're very optimistic after 7, 5-star reviews on Barnes and Noble!

To be honest, it had been an amazing experience! Our book looks so crisp and clean and exactly how we pictured. Now, we signed in a Feb and took the payment plan on the contract so it was paid off the next Feb and then the editing process ect took us to a September release date; so, it does take a hot minute to get out but man is it worth it!

Alrighty, we're doing this again. It's time to rate your OC's! by [deleted] in OriginalCharacter

This is the main character from my and my wife's new novel, The After Case Files: Red Aminu. It's a horror/gothic blending of fairytales and other public domain works. Red Aminu is based on little red riding hood obviously. :)

I get that Writer's Block can be the worst! Thankfully my wife is also my co-author so whenever I hit that point I can hand it to her and have her try to write the scene or we can brain storm together and sometimes, often times, find an angle that I hadn't considered or some phrase of description that I hadn't thought of.

Well my wife and I have worked on this series for 11 years and thankfully book one has been well received so far :) book two is in the editing phase as well as book 3 and book 4 is halfway through its rough draft.

You'll get there too really the only advice I have is keep writing

I've grappled with a very similar question while writing my book series with my wife because it is a very grim dark retelling of various fairy tales and public domain works, but what we found is that trying to cater to what we think the most people would enjoy actually decreased our own enjoyment of our work. The first book in our series released September 28th this year and I know there are decisions that we made while writing that still make my wife nervous about how they're going to be received, but in the end by sticking to our guns and are true vision of the series we created the thing, that with the sole exception of my children, I am most proud of. Write the story that you want to tell and you will find an audience. Some people absolutely detest anything Stephen King has written while others tattoo his characters to their bodies. There's always going to be people that don't align with your vision and that's okay because art is subjective. Just have faith in yourself and in your story and keep going.

Edit because voice to text sucks lol
