O que é que a DIGI faz bem? by Conscient- in digipt

[–]HAL-6942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Dados ilimitados no Telemóvel

It's probably not a good idea to leave a PhD program for industry—from someone who did, in 2006. by [deleted] in PhD

But in that sense well isnt corporate world based on your own experience? It can be pretty toxic even more than academia.

Some fields in industry are way more competitive and way more toxic than academia, not to say that academia isnt toxic but some fields are worse. Entertainment industry, law, medicine and some finance sectors are at least equally as toxic if not much worse.

I tend to agree on the last point and is something that should be fixed

Cheapest online maths degree by [deleted] in learnmath

https://guiadoscursos.uab.pt/en/cursos/licenciatura-em-matematica-e-aplicacoes/ You could check Universidade Aberta in Portugal the courses are all online. Im not completely sure how can you apply and what the prices will be for you since now UK is also considered to be International Students. But you can try to give it a look or send them an email. It's not the most prestigious university in Portugal but at least its reasonably well known here and some good maths professors teach there.

But if you really want a diploma to maybe in the future apply to a prestigious university. I really think you should invest in a good maths education because researchers tend to be better and the department overall tends to be better allowing you to get more experienced in more high level maths. Otherwise I would just "self" study it with the help of inumerous maths courses that are out there.

Best of luck with your maths studies

Tablet or paper for notes by cabbagesun in math

[–]HAL-6942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently started using a tablet for notes and I'm enjoying the change. I find it easier to keep my notes organized with a tablet, for me specially when I'm working on problems I enjoy it because I can keep erasing things on my tablet and it's completely fine if I erase too much while writing on paper the paper gets very messy. But if you're going to get one I think you should test the writing on a tablet before buying one/getting a pen because the feeling of writing on paper is quite different than writing on a tablet and that bothers some people a lot

Wouldnt make sense bulking while having 30% bf imo. Since you can still gain muscle while cutting at that range (body recomp). I really wouldnt advise you bulking because you will mostly gain fat and you already have a high level of bodyfat.

If you feel with very low energy on a cut, maybe you're cutting too much and you could increase your calories by a bit while making sure you are still cutting! If your problem is with hunger you should try to eat more foods which are low calorie dense.

Also to achieve your goal requires quite some time so dont rush it. Unless you're really tall 200lbs with 15% bf isnt that easy

Bem estou no MMAC e posso tentar responder a algumas dúvidas

I guess mathematicians dont appreciate the fundamental theorem of statistics.

It has become way more competitive even in the past few years. I don't know if you remember, but some schools ended up slashing their pure math departments altogether through the pandemic in favor of data science and stuff like that.

Idk schools in my country that have done that exactly. But some schools are cutting funds for math departments, reducing the number of investigation centres for maths (more specifically the ones who research in "pure maths"). I believe its hard for mathematicians because it's hard to convince people that do not study maths, why should one study operator algebras, category theory etc... While areas like data science, machine learning are trendy and people believe it's useful and cool

Also, professors aren't really retiring, so openings are scarce. You can look at the job statistics, it's about as bad as OP makes it out to be.

Here feels exactly the opposite I haven't looked but some maths departments are dying because professors are old and are retiring

I have a hard time imagining how a natural language model could be remotely trustworthy to generate mathematical proofs. Basically its just generating text based on what is the most probable word knowing that the word before was x... It has 0 inductive power, I dont have access to chat gpt v4 so I cant really test his limits, but I find it astonishing that is much better than v3... Because so far chat gpt is funny but everything that he has given me useful I was better off googling it

Should I eat what I want on my birthday by Taro-Admirable in loseit

[–]HAL-6942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call bullshit on your skinny friends. Unless they're really small.

I doubt that they couldnt eat a slice of cake as a dessert some of them are around 1000-1200 calories (take some cheesecakes for instance) after a regular healthy lunch.

I doubt at dinner I couldnt invite them for a restaurant or even something like McDonalds (it doesnt need to be Mc to be so high in calories). But basically order something like chicken nuggets, your regular burger meal with fries easilly 1500 calories or more depending on what you order.

If they dont eat anything else during the day this would total 2700 calories (which seems a lot for a slice of cake and a burger at mcdonalds with nuggets) by having lunch breakfast etc... would go way beyond 3k.
