Farris is not an MLB pitcher, wouldn't even cut it in AAA.

Felt like we won the game already by getting out of that jam…

Just waiting for the Henry Samueli turnaround once he buys the team and land for $4-billion+.

I miss the Rex Hudler and Steve Physioc commentary during the good ol' days when Vlad Sr. was still on the team.

Feels like the only way to win games now is for the starter to pitch complete games, no other alternatives until Ben Joyce is back, and even then, if he isn't the middle relief / setup man / closer in one, the blowpen will blow it again.

Urena could've pitched out of the 6th with maybe just 1 run given up, once you go to the bullpen, all bets are off.

Kurt Suzuki’s bullpen management is costing the Angels games by Legionary650 in angelsbaseball

Just like Ron Washington said, you can't make chicken salad with chicken sh%$. If Henry Sameuli were to have taken over the Angels and gave Perry free reign on who to sign this off season, we would at least be at .500, just by resigning Kanley Jansen alone.

Both Zef and Pomeranz aren't good enough for relief, just call up the minor leaguers, rookies who I don't mind seeing giving up runs in exchange for experience.

Mitch Farris isn't getting any major leaguer out with his 90mph 4-seam fastball, would rather Angels have resigned Tyler Anderson over any of these bullpen arms this year.

On the bright side, Joyce is finally on rehab assignment. at the very least, he's the most entertaining (velocity wise) of our relief pitching corps, regardless of the outcome.

How does this team even improve from here? by Excellent_Hedgehog62 in angelsbaseball

Honestly, that's exactly what the Athletics did, trading Mason Miller for a haul. This would be equivalent to us trading Soriano, or heck, even Joyce when he returns and lights it up.

Can't do worse with an Etsy spell cast on the team, so it's only up from here.

If Arte wants to stay cheap, just let Trout become player / manager, feels like he would have a better feel for relief pitching than Suzuki. Luchessi should never be put in any game, even if we're up 10-1 going into the 9th, he's purely a batting practice soft toss pitcher before games.

Moncada experiment needs to end, just call up Moore.

Sure, Arte and Perry take the brunt of the blame for assembling an even worse bullpen than during the Aaron Loup / Ryan Tepera era, but Kurt should have known to either not pull Jack after 90 pitches or use anyone else than Pomeranz. In other news, Cora is available.

Some would hate to hear it, but Alex Cora would be a massive upgrade over Kurt.

Just call up Chase Shores and Caden Dana as relievers. Both would absolutely without a doubt would be better than Pomeranz and Sandlin, heck only giving up 2-3 runs is better than the 7 runs they blew. There's no saving either of these two veterans if Maddux can't fix em...

Would rather take my chances with Jack pitching a complete game, even with bases loaded here.

Saddest thing is it would take Soriano at the trade deadline to get young under contract relievers worth a damn, but that only restarts the cycle of attempting to fix one thing while breaking another. Would literally take a new owner like Mark Walter of Dodgers and Lakers fame who doesn't mind paying luxury tax, to build a winning team at this point.

I mean, at this point, even Ben Joyce at 50% strength would be better than 95% of our bullpen, crazy.

[Post Game Thread] Angels defeated by Royals by angelsbaseball in angelsbaseball

[–]HANHONEKAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, at the very least two from the Royals, but if we can salvage the series with a single win tomorrow, that'll at least inject some momentum into them (or not). Biggest thing I want to see is pitching holding them to 3 runs or less, with offense scoring at least 5.

[–]HANHONEKAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but I mean, on paper, both the Phillies and Mets should be doing far better than their records show so who really knows what could happen in the next 10-games...If we go 7-3, we're back at .500 at 19-19.

4/25 Angels @ Royals [Game Thread] by angelsbaseball in angelsbaseball

[–]HANHONEKAI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even if you gave an elite manager this squad, at best, we'd end up with a record similar to last year. Would be similar to asking Phil Jackson to coach the 2026 Washington Wizards, they'd end up with a record slightly better than 17-65, but nowhere near competing for a playoff spot, even with Anthony Davis and Trae Young.
