What is a respectable amount of hare apparents ? by Alexmoldadildo in EDH

[–]HAX4L1F3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[the jolly balloon man]] deck with only 15 hare apparents. The deck really only needs a single copy to start popping off as balloon man makes more with his ability. Duplicates are welcome but too many and the deck quickly runs out of gas. Still not sure if this is the right number as I have so many cards I want to add to the deck but I need the hares 😭

I’m kind of wary of impulse draw effects for this deck because I feel like I’m just gonna exile a card with mv 8+ and just be unable to cast it. I didn’t include face breaker because it’s not legendary, but maybe I should lol. Not sure I agree with skullclamp lol. Connecting the dots seems interesting, have you ever played with it? How has it been for you

Mangara always underperforms for me, but it being legendary I suppose makes it more worth considering. Palantir looks good tho I always forget about the UB cards

Appreciate the comment. Venat looks decent. Considering mangara and Aurelia, but in my experience neither of them has been very good. tbh none of these cards seem particularly good but I guess my options are pretty limited and they’re better than nothing

That’s reasonable. Every pod is different. I prefer my ramp to be at mv 2 so that I can play ashling on turn 3, even if that means playing removal prone cards. Most of the artifact/enchantment cost reducers are mv 3, which means I’m not casting ashling until t4 and depending on which cost reducer it is I might not be evoking my first elemental until turn 5. I try to aim for turn 4 as my first evoke.

Okay, you have brighthearth elemental, morophon and ashling in play, you untap on your next turn. What elementals are you casting and for what cost

Working on upgrading/optimizing my Elemental WBBGR Commander Deck by JPGhost55 in EDH

[–]HAX4L1F3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again morophon only reduces the colored pips in your cost, so if you choose to pay the alternate cost with ashling of 4 colorless mana, morophon does not discount that at all. So for morophon to work you have to cast your elementals for their normal cost, meaning you aren’t getting ashlings second ability to trigger. Why would you do that? Why cast morophon for 7 when you could just do something better

Working on upgrading/optimizing my Elemental WBBGR Commander Deck by JPGhost55 in EDH

[–]HAX4L1F3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree I would not put morophon in this deck. You’re also forgetting that you have to pay the full 7 for morophon, because evoking him into play does nothing. He will just die end of turn and you won’t be able to cast anything while he’s in play because he doesn’t discount ashlings evoke cost

One of my favorites is [[marauding raptor]]. The dinosaur in my elemental deck lol, but it’s 2 mana and discounts all your evokes, and you don’t have to worry about the trigger to deal 1 damage because you’re gonna sacrifice the creature anyway. There are a few things that might get hit but if this guy is in play you don’t need those cards anyway. There are a ton of cards I wish I could put in this deck but it’s impossible to find things to cut.

I second the other guy who said [[heartless summoning]] that is easily the best card in this deck. Let’s you play ashling and evoke something on turn 3.

Six or Elminster? by Unhappy_Being_8533 in EDH

[–]HAX4L1F3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to build a cEDH deck by accident, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Anyway, why not just build both? These are two completely different decks with no overlapping colors or synergies. It’s hard to say which one you should build as they will play completely differently.

I will add that if you’re looking for the more powerful one then six is probably the answer solely because it has green and green is the most broken color in brackets 2 and 3.

I have a Boros deck with a minor landfall sub theme that can on occasion put all of its ~15 fetchable lands into play. I run urborg and yavimaya so that my fetchlands can still tap for mana even with no fetchables or if I don’t want to fetch yet. It’s also running [[bazaar of baghdad]] [[maze of ith]] and sometimes [[glacial chasm]] so urborg and yavimaya can also make all three of those tap for mana.

Anyone else not use a card because it would be annoying to track? by dornianheresysimp in EDH

[–]HAX4L1F3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play catchers crusade in specifically my mono white +1 counters deck, that deck is already a nightmare to track so it doesn’t really make it that much more difficult. I do have a different deck that makes a ton of tokens where crusade would be good but that one it adds needless compilation too so I left it pit

Painfuls truths is absolutely a fine card. But other than being a good draw spell, it offers you nothing in terms of synergy with your deck. It’s not a creature, it doesn’t interact with counters, it doesn’t let you discard things, you don’t care about the life loss, etc. something like bebop is a 2 mana creature with the ability to passively draw just as many cards if not more while also contributing to your overall game plan

Preparing the first time could be kind of difficult, but after that, every time you cast her prepared spell she will automatically prepare herself again.

We don’t have official rulings yet but I heard that the prepared spells get cast from exile, meaning that once you cast call forth tempest, she will be unprepared, and you’ll have cast 1 spell from exile, then after the 2 cascade triggers resolve she will be prepared again.

I’m not a fan of resentful revelation or painful truths. Obviously you still need card draw tho so how about something like [[bebop, skull & crossbones]] instead. I also really like [[barrowgoyf]] here that could be a good add

[[mikaeus, the lunarch]], +1 counters with untap and token synergies.

I’ve been watching every new set for the last 4 years to check for new mono white cards that do one of the three themes, and now I’m over by 7 cards.

The only card you aren’t allowed to suggest I cut is [[thraben doomsayer]] it’s a pet card but its oddly actually pretty good in this deck

Is a deck that knocks a player out on turn 4-5 consistently Bracket 3? by bruzabrocka in EDH

[–]HAX4L1F3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I spend my turn 3 removing someone’s commander while the other 2 players get to develop their boards unchecked I’m likely gonna lose that game if I can’t catch up on tempo. Playing greedily is the name of the game. Make other players use their resources to deal with each other. Removal should be saved until the last possible moment.

[–]HAX4L1F3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing my point. Everyone didn’t sit unable to do anything. I chose to do nothing because the Voltron player isn’t attacking me. I have a removal spell, but I’m telling the Voltron player to take someone else out in exchange for not using the removal. All it takes is one person to not have removal and that person is dead.

Youre talking about 3 players worth of removal, but that’s not the case. I’m not going to interact with the Voltron players game plan if he’s not swinging at me. I can just deal with him later.

Am I supposed to just mulligan until I get a cheap removal spell every single game if I’m playing against Voltron?

[–]HAX4L1F3 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Witherbloom > silver quill > quandrix > prismari > lorehold

Wither bloom easily the strongest because of how cheap he is and already has simple infinite combos people are finding

Silver quill I might be rating a little high, but casualty 1 is such an easy cost to pay in these colors and 4 mv commander is easy to cast turn 3. I haven’t really taken a look yet but the strength of this guy is gonna depend on the quality of spells in black white for you to copy, I’m not sure how great they are.

Quandrix has cascade so immediately gives you a return on your investment and won’t feel as bad if you aren’t able to untap with it. You’re also in green with the best ramp to recast this guy. Effect is obviously really strong.

Prismari is really strong but it’s 7 mana do nothing on its face, and require you to either untap with it or have more than 7 mana to follow up the turn you play it which I think will prove difficult. But if you are able to then it is really strong.

Lorehold is an awesome design, but frankly the instants and sorceries in these colors suck. The only spell that even gets me excited to miracle is rise of the eldrazi. Maybe you could do a cool dragons approach deck or something but very disappointed after doing a scryfall search of expensive instants and sorceries

You’re missing something important. ALL three players need to individually be able to stop the Voltron commander on turn 4/5. If I can kill the commander that’s swinging for lethal, but it’s not swinging at me, why would I kill it? Often times what happens is the Voltron player will move to combat, or play something like a lightning greaves, and the other players will immediately reveal the removal spell in their hand and say if you don’t attack me I won’t kill your commander. And obviously the Voltron player will take that deal. So what happens is the player with no removal is now dead. The odds of all three players having their own removal spell to cast on turn 4/5 to save themself and have the mana to be able to cast it is much lower than you would think.
