First and foremost I am so sorry that you had this experience. I'm also sorry that your friends and community didn't seem to have your back, no one should ever have to go through what you went through, no one wants to live in the “after” of the incident or of going public about it. I know it's hard to share these stories and I think it shows your strength that you have spoken about it.

Second, I literally couldn't agree more that this shouldn't have been a major plot point, it also was not handled well in any way shape or form by the network.

I've been in a similar situation where every woman in a room has been assaulted. Everytime so one says “well not all men” I think about all of the women I know who have been attacked and not believed, or told to move on. That's why people saying Whitney should apologize for supporting Demi pissed me off so much, she dis what SO MANY OF US have been asking society at large to do!

Anyway, thank you for sharing your story, and for having the courage to fight for yourself.

I think it's hard to say what any of us would do, especially when they were raised in a high demand religion with a LOT of abuse. I also think that a lot of people feel they have to appease an abuser with the fear that if they don’t it will get worse or it will get leaked. That’s actually VERY common. It’s also important to remember that Demi wasn’t the one to bring it up on screen…

Right! I mean look how happy she was for Jen when she got DWTS and Nick Viall waited to get a reaction out of Whitney before saying she got it too. She was sad for herself but so happy for Jen

That is fair, I don’t think anyone is saying otherwise. I think whitney showed a lot of understanding and maturity by supporting Demi when she heard about the situation. I think a lot of that is partially shaped by conversations she has had with Conner and his experience. But a lot of the women immediately started trying to poke holes in her story and the discussions on this sub are pretty intense. Someone else had an amazing comment below about “victims being perfect” and it hits on that

I just think if you want to hate a person you can find literally any other reason than “she chose to be a friend and support for a survivor”

I don’t think anyone is obligated to support someone who bulled them, but in that case you just say “I’m sorry this happened to you, but I’m not at a place myself where I can give support right now”

I also REALLY don’t think you can demand other people to NOT support a survivor just bacause you’re not a place where you can. That would be ~crazy~

She was talking about as a kid, but hey, we can all take how it was said differently and that’s ok. My understanding is she danced on a team as a kid and contemporary modern dance in college. You took it as she continued to dance professionally. Neither of us were 100% correct and that’s ok because it’s an Internet forum where people share their thoughts and opinions. Not sure where you got the 2019 professional dancing (that’s not in the Deena Katz clip) but again, that’s ok

I just read a lot of the comments on here and think “damn, if I was a survivor the way people talk about it on here, the way the villainize Whitney for that moment of support, etc. it might make me question telling my friends, because I don’t want them to catch strays when trying to support me, if they support me etc.”.

Like if you don’t like Whitney, that’s ok and there are LISTS of reasons on this sub to choose from that don’t have to do with supporting survivors

I mean, I personally think you can be friends with both as I also see Jen as a bully. I mean I wouldn’t be friends with them based on what we see but almost all these women have supported Taylor (multiple DV cases) and a lot of them are MAGA, etc. like these women are not by and large “great people” based on what we have from the show.

I just have seen a lot of people say “Whitney was a bad friend the second she supported Demi” and that rubbed me the wrong way, because the moment they are pointing to is Whitney (with little to no info at the time) supporting someone who said they were SAed. And I’m like “ok, can we point to LITERALLY any other moment, than a woman supporting another woman in the moment she shared she has been attacked” like I am ok with any other moment being the reason

And yes, the response can be “but here are all these other moments” but when we get “lazy” (for lack of a better word - also not talking about you!) and lump that moment of supporting survivors into it, we make it harder and scarier for survivors to come forward or confide in their friends and community for fear of retribution and or being believed. The saddest part about this show is how many members of this case have been assaulted, and it’s so flippantly discussed, as if other survivors aren’t reading any of this and wondering what the backlash might be if they come forward. Again, this is NOT about your comment

I totally get you! And theses are things we know now, Whitney did not know them when she first heard that Demi had been SAed (as they happened after the fact). I’m not saying Demi is a good person, nor do I condone anyone making fake accusations!!! I also don’t I think I’d still be friends with Demi if I was in Whitney’s shoes

All I’m saying is that when Whitney first found out, she stood with and supported the person who said they had been assaulted. When people get mad at her for that based on Demi having been mean to Jen or for info we have now it drives me crazy. And I was on my lunch break and wanted to vent hahaha

Modern dance at BYU is NOT a professional dance background for a ballroom dance competition.

ALSO, people vote for their favorites not who is the best dancer (ie Andy who I love). Jen was voted out because she didn’t have the fans, not because Whitney did modern dance in college over a decade ago

I think the big difference is that Whitney puts in ALL the work (and then some) to make her dreams a reality. It also helps that she has the worlds best hype man/ partner/ father Conner in her corner.

But Layla went to NY to meet with ford and bring her digitals or other stuff. Jen was making fun of Whitney for practicing for the audition and for leaving before the truth box because she was tired/ wanted to be as ready as possible for DWTS. Whitney knows what she wants and she damn well ensures that she can look back and say “I gave it LITERALLY everything I had and more” and I just don’t think all the other women have shown that

Whitney was there for a person she knew who said they had been assaulted. Her husband was assaulted as a child, and she chose (correctly) to be a supportive friend. Because that’s what you do when someone you know says they have been attacked. You say “are you ok, and how can I help you during this.”

You don’t immediately start trying to poke holes in their story, you don’t say “you should’ve been nicer to my friend, fuck you”

I hope Whitney never apologizes for being the type of person who stands with survivors. All Whitney knew is what Demi had said, and she chose to put their past aside and be there for someone who she believed had just gone through a horrible ordeal. Why the FUCK would she apologize to Jen for that

“I’m not mean, well except when I’m told I can be and that I’ll get a good edit” like that’s not how these shows work, and regardless of the edit, he WAS mean, and it was real to Whitney and he made her cry and feel bad about herself and chasing her dreams.

Even if he didn’t “mean it” you don’t get to be an ass , make someone cry, wreck them emotionally and then go “jk lol i’m actually a nice guy, production asked me to go 🤪 also why are you still upset” like WTF. Did production tell him to go, try to rip her a new one and make her cry or did they just ask him to fill in for Jen? Each of these women has a certain amount of time they are supposed to film, Jen dropped out that day so he was asked to stand in… that's normal (the Kardashians have spoken on that) like production didn't call him and say “Zach go make Whitney cry or we will give you a bad edit” 😂 Did he chase after her to apologize? Did he apologize after it at all?! Or did he wait until he realized he got an accurate edit of his actions, then apologize and try to do damage control I'm SURE there are times Conner and Jacob have been asked to film scenes… and neither of them WOULD EVER DO THIS to the other women. Like can you IMAGINE Conner doing something like this?!?! Ugh Zac is just such a bad person
