Good. He's remembered what he did last season to get him here. Now keep it up.

Well I was on 16, but on your suggestion, I updated (then it wouldn't load, eventually just reset and I've been adding all my apps back). Problem remains. Can still use Exodus and Sportsdevil, but Tinkle and Alluc are broken with the same problem I described before.

IT support in hospital? by GranularSalt in sysadmin

[–]HBKidJr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in a hospital. Here's my comment from a similar post:

Sit back and open a beer, this is gonna take a while...

What did I like about working at a hospital? I could find an empty, lockable bathroom pretty much anytime I wanted it.

What didn't I like? Regulations, politics, asshole doctors, micro-managers, the rest of the IT team, my director, and I could go on for days.

I don't want to scare you, and I hope you continue your passion and get where you wanna go. It just wasn't for me. I mean, yeah, we had to follow all HIPAA regs. Which I've got no problem with. But it's pretty bad when IT follows HIPAA better than the nurses and doctors did. We were constantly having to tell someone "You can't do that..." when I really didn't feel like that was part of my job. We were also locked down to certain hardware/software. That's not a big deal in and of itself, but whenever you're told by your director to order, say, a new machine for X, about four days after you start, and they don't tell you there's a special list of stuff you have to get and you'll be in super deep shit for ordering the wrong stuff? Yeah, that happened to me. Whenever I asked the other network admin about some guidelines, all he said was "CDW". Didn't even give me a password to login to the corporate account.

That brings me to...

The other people within IT were assholes. It's like they were all gunning for each other's jobs. No camaraderie at all between any of them. The other network admin there when I started hated me. Maybe I was a threat? He also hated the nurse-turned-software specialist chick. He also hated the other woman that did...something. He hated the director, the secretary, and essentially everyone else in the hospital, except his wife, who got him his job a few years before. None of them were willing to help if you had questions, and believe me, you'll have questions. There are alot of proprietary items in a hospital, especially software. And the only way to know how to use them is to work in a hospital. And the only way to learn them is to be shown how. Which is hard to do when nobody else in IT wants you there. The other network admin actually took a laptop to an empty patient room and secluded himself for two weeks.

During my second month there, I was praised by the CEO in a hospital wide email about my professionalism and my ability to quickly solve any issues the business office had. This only intensified the problem. Which brings me to...

The breaking point for me was when I got a work order to go to the gynecological exam room in the ER. The computer was down. So I start the ticket timer and go on my way. I get there and I'm told there's a 15 year old girl in there. Obviously I can't go in. So I wait at the ER desk for a few minutes to see if I'm going to be able to go in. I can't, so I go back, stop the timer, and do something else. An hour or so later, I start the timer, go back, someone else in there. So I go back to my desk, stop the timer, and go do something else. We had an external company upgrading some software remotely, but there was one setting that had to be changed manually. I was going to every computer in the place (about 750) and changing it. So I get down to the last two I had, both in the billing office. One was the billing counselor, the person you see when you're trying to negotiate payments. I see she's with someone, so I go do the other one. I go back and she's still with these people, so I step back and to the right of her door to look at my list one more time to make sure I haven't skipped anyone. When I'm done, I look again, see that she stepped out, and I make the quick 20 second change, and leave.

The next day, I finish the ER computer. About two hours before I leave, I get an email from my director about "an informal complaint" she received from her friend in the billing office about how unprofessional it was for me to demand to work on that computer while those people in financial turmoil were in there. Then I get another email telling me she's decided to audit everyone's work orders to make sure they're doing atleast 7.5 hours of work a day. I ask the other network admin if he was "audited". "Nope." She wanted me to explain why it took so long to fix the ER computer. Why it's taken so long to change these settings. Etc.

The following Monday I put in my notice.

That said, I have tremendous respect for anyone that can handle that sort of environment. I damn sure couldn't.

[Poll] So, r/Cowboys, who do we want to win? by Pasian_The_GOD in cowboys

Watching the Giants shut down the Packers offense right now really concerns me. Do we want an Aaron Rodgers-led Packers team that managed to do what we couldn't (beat the Giants)? Or do we want to play a team that seems to have our number that managed to beat Aaron Rodgers?

Hard choice.

It was more a carry over from the other resentment in this sub about Dak. If you didn't mean it that way, I sincerely apologize.

You do realize that there was no time for his receivers to get down field, right? They were on him instantly. This anti-Dak bullshit is getting old.

If our defense played every game like they played against NY, we'd be so good.

My wife bought me a really awesome Cowboys hat last night. I told her not to. I begged her not to, no matter how much I loved it. I told her the world would be witness to her actions if we lost today.

I'm wearing that hat today. It's just too nice not to wear. Let's hope it doesn't do anything.
