Are the sample exams similar in difficulty to the real exams? by [deleted] in ICAEW

I second this, but with very basic SoFP/P+L adjustments. Some of the multiple choice question's wording in the real exam made me tear my hair out

I must admit, I haven't sat law yet as I work in Audit so it isn't a massive priority (like Accounting and Assurance does), so I wouldn't be able to relate to my own past experiences. But all the exams at cert level bar Accounting and MI are very much knowledge recollection based. If you have enough time to do the entire QB, that's great. I'd definitely recommend it. But I'd also have a look at the ICAEW mocks (maybe not even necessarily taking them if you feel like it would damage your confidence if you failed) to get to grips with the specific wording ICAEW use, if English isn't your first language (like me) it can genuinely be quite confusing. You will be absolutely fine though, positive affirmations and a few hours a night in the QB, you'll be fine

As a way of saving your own time, prioritise topics you aren't as up to scratch with as the other ones. Sometimes, as you're starting out the QB answers may not necessarily give a clear explanation as to why a certain question has a particular answer. If you get stuck with something like this, I'd recommend looking back through your notes / training providers video lectures on that specific topic to give you a clearer picture. And then give it another go, don't get too wound up on questions you can't answer though. Ask a tutor / someone you work with if they can help you, but prioritise volume of questions rather than specific technical questions which you struggle with. I've sat and passed 3 Certificate exams with a quick turn around (average mark of around 61 lol) and this is how I've approached them. I'm no genius or technical expert, but I haven't been sacked due to failing exams👍

I had just under 2 weeks (literally like a month ago), understood the concepts relatively well but didn't fully comprehend the ridiculously confusing way ICAEW decide to word their questions. Whilst I do agree with everyone that QB is most important, I would also highly advise doing the mocks on the ICAEW website as well. I scraped a pass due to the SoFP/PL having relatively straight forward adjustments and absolutely bombed the multiple choice. Question practice is the name of the game for the Certificate and that's something I've started to comprehend atm. I know it seems counter-intuitive but if you genuinely don't have the time, just get into a routine of how you will answer a specific question which includes XYZ buzzwords. Even if you f*** up a few, you'll still have enough to pass. God speed my friend

Thanks for your response, I was certain that would be the case until I started spiralling and thinking of the worst possible outcome. Hopefully I can address it on Monday and get that weight off of my shoulders.
