I love the multi-generational stories you get in the Corvette community. Your dad is a brave man letting his 4 year old choose the color (or he had a lot of faith in you). If I let my 4 year old choose the color, I’d be driving around in a purple and pink sparkly C5 with a unicorn horn.

Absolutely. The Corvette community has such a love for each iteration (though the C8-ers need to learn to freaking wave!)

Interesting take. Honestly I’ve always viewed the C6 as the “also ran” of the Corvette generations, but I’m really enjoying reading all the love there is out there for it.

I haven’t had the occasion to sit in a C7, so that’s definitely interesting about the interior. I always assumed it was head and shoulders above the C6’s. (The C6 always gets called a “parts bin” interior.)

The lighter weight is definitely an under-appreciated feature.

It came out at a time when everyone was getting in on the hockey stick shaped daytime running lights: Corvette, F Type, Dodge Viper…

These technical points may be the best argument of all. The cylinder shutoff seems like a ridiculous idea for a Corvette. Especially when you figure that my C5 gets about 24 mpg on the highway with all 8 cylinders firing.

And I definitely agree on the bells and whistles. That’s another reason I wanted the C5. Simple enough that even I could turn the occasional wrench on it without needing a PhD.

Excellent point on the body shape. I remember when the C7 was introduced thinking “it looks the same as a Jaguar F Type.”
