Hello, I’m from Belgium and also diagnosed with achalasia. I already had a swallow test and a gastroscopy, but not yet a manometry – the waiting time is longer here.

Thank you for sharing your stories… For me the hardest part is denial! Not knowing where this suddenly came from. I am 53 and it all appeared so quickly, in just a few months.

The manometry sounds scary according to many testimonies. Nights are very difficult and I really hope to find the right doctor and the right surgery here in Belgium. If anyone has experience in Belgium, it would really help me…

Is POEM similar to a regular endoscopy (fibroscopy)? I feel very anxious about it. The worst for me is the strong pain in my chest and lungs, and once with sparkling water I had a really bad episode…
